Thank you Eric. I'm a lone 59yo artist, become printer and entrepreneur in Telluride, Colorado - looking to get back to my art and shift my career. This program is very helpful! I appreciate your knowledge and enthusiasm. I look forward to next weeks program!

What a great answer you gave about to the Lady about selling her Art through Galleries and asking for the gallery Salesperson’s opinion on why her art didn’t sell, that whole interview with you was SO INFORMATIVE. THANK YOU, ERIC!

Eric, good advice on this one. Factoid, I'd certainly invite that first lady to join my gallery simply because she looks like a nice person to work with. ;D. Yes, marketing, the thing most good artists hate. One workshop teacher I had said "I'd Like to have a slot in my studio to pass paintings through and a big check would come out of another slot"!! Have not seen anyone invent that, yet. LOL. Most "big-time" artists often spend a lot of time doing things other than painting, so what's the point of it all? I know if you have got to eat, then you must sell, ...something. Fortunately, I don't have to, I had a "real career" in science, so I can afford to paint every day lately, and I have sold a few in a local gallery in the Tucson, AZ area here. But I feel no pressure, to "paint for the market". I only paint what I want to. I do small plein air landscapes, 6x8 to 11x14 range, which sold well a few years ago, but now the gallery wants those big things, measured by the foot, that cover a big blank wall of all the big houses we have here in my town, Oro Valley. It's in sort of an "upscale" area, probably just like your home is too Eric. LOL. Also yes, on a painted panel put something down, on the back, even if it is a printed label with your contact information, or use a sharpie to write down the date, location, and if it is a plein air, etc. which I do. No "stories" though, that's just Silly!! :D. That way you can track your progress as a painter, be it either "good, bad, or ugly", (cue the great western movie theme music here). LOL. Then you can say in the past few years you've improved or maybe not, and you still suck, badly, and maybe should try crocheting or writing "art books", next, as a "creative career"!! LOL ;D

Thank you for your input! I was shocked when I heard my name, haha! I absolutely love painting and can get lost in it for hours at a time. Hours, as in all day! Basically, I'm a hermit, and do not feel comfortable putting myself out there, nor promoting myself. I know. Weird, huh. I love people though! Just for short spurts of time. I'm too insecure to teach painting (even though I have been asked a few times), or do a demo in a public place. So, I think I'm beyond help, haha. I do great one on one, though, and have taught that way here and there. It works. Not everyone is meant to have a large sphere of influence. Do you have other suggestions as to online spaces to put my work on, that don't cost a lot, and allow local pick up of my art? When I was growing up, they had newspapers, but very few of them exist any more. :)

The art competitions are not really a competition. Your art never gets in front of the judge. You pay $35 to enter and you get a letter back from some screening person, stating they do not want your painting but they do not say why. Then, they keep your money. For$35 you should at least hear why it did not meet criteria (other than the standard response that there were a lot on entries and we could not take them all).

It may be true for some but every painting entered in Plein Air Salon gets in front of a judge each month.

The problem with going to “a” gallery owner is that’s one person’s opinion. They may not like your style. I’m afraid a good painter will be discouraged by that one gallery owner. On the flip side, Eric you are in galleries and haven’t won a competition. At least go to multiple galleries
