This has been one thing I've been struggling with lately. I used to have an decent audience for my size on Twitch but I had to go away for 8 months. Now I'm trying to build that back up and a lot of the people I used to see on Twitch just aren't around any more. Other streamers that used to raid me regularly have stopped streaming etc. So now I'm getting just a handful of viewers and very little chat other than one or two loyal regulars. With barely any chat I've found it hard to make conversation without the chat to bounce off. Thank you for your awesome content, I will certainly be putting these tips into action.

A really good way to do this is to go out in your day to day life and find the small positives in your day and write them down. You might have a really good coffee somewhere for example and in streams you could open to chat that independent cafés are better than chain, then explain your reasoning behind it, maybe throw in what you like about chain cafés. You've just opened up 10 maybe 20 minutes of content.

You are right, always talking is something all streamers should do. As someone who just recently started out, and wants to try being consistent, always talking is probably the biggest tip for a starting streamer aside from networking. If people can just chill and talk with you, it really is easier to start just talking. But being able to talk to yourself is probably the biggest starting tip for a streamer.

I'm just getting back into streaming again after taking a few years off. Getting myself talking is pretty easy, thankfully. It's because I am just so... dang... *_interesting_* ! I kid, I kid (maybe). But seriously, one thing I am grateful for is my 6 years doing radio broadcasts for sometimes 5-7 hours a day. When you're on the air that long, you HAVE to be quick on your tongue to come up with things to gab about. It's NOT easy, but it IS a skill anyone can do, if they put their mind and heart into it. So, take heart, all. If I can do it, you certainly can! Great advice in the vid. Definitely gives a good basis for people to have those mental cues to get their gums flowing.
@lampdevil3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the advice! I'm gearing up to start streaming, and all the talk about how to engage your chat and keep things lively is a lot of what excites me. The appeal to streaming for me isn't just broadcasting myself, but in making a space to do something together. Or maybe like throwing a party? Putting on a show with audience participation? Gosh. So many possible analogies. You've given me more to think about!

I do not like getting older and new media and technology is over my head. So I learn everything I can. I used 2 days alone on getting the audio right i hope. I will have fun and i am not good at gaming i see a lot of people playing games at insane skills nope i start a game at the beginning and grow hopefuly with some followers that will find it fun me not figuring out the obvious everyone knows already. I think learning new skills especially on technology and media is never a waste of time. And for sure the people i have watched that i think is good i now apreciate more knowing that doing it good takes a lot of work.

As someone who picked up streaming not that long ago, thanks a lot for your vid ! I've gotten better at talking and filling up spaces. My biggest enemy tho remains that since english isn't my first language, I tend to use a lot of the same words or fumble my sentences (and I stream in english because 99% of my friends speak english and i've been bilingual since i was a kid so it helps) So the notebook thing is also something I picked up and it's so dang useful. I've been writing down all sorts of hooks, sentences, personal notes. I think tho that keeping it up to date like you do is a really good idea just to keep the flow going

Maybe random question but is a face cam mandatory when starting out? I don't really want to~ Anyways, I hope I'll do fine engaging, I know I can do it since that is what I do at work. But at work it's much more spur of the moment rather than going into a situation expecting myself to perform. How often do chatters in a smaller channels (like double or single digits of watchers) interact with bots?

Everyone Listen: I watch these videos every week not just because Eljay is funny, but the content is GOOD! Get your notepad ready and rewatch if necessary! My community's engagement is up ever since I subbed to stream scheme. It takes time to build a community just like it takes time to learn a new skill or make new friends. Quick edit: another tool everyone should be using is social media, just post gaming photos, pokemon cards etc half of my viewers are from social media followers. Then you can talk about your previous funny post or something they posted.

Thank you for all the advice, videos, and discord community! I started using polls and taking notes about my day these last couple of weeks. It has been a big help! During my last stream, I discussed nostalgia (connected to something I heard in a podcast I listen to), and we kept coming back to this topic. It was great!

I was just thinking about this this morning! I'm glad this came out today. I had a good stream with an active viewer yesterday and I realized how much I can talk when there is a person. Then I watched one of my streams where I had no viewers and skipping around the video to 15 random locations I was only talking in 2 of them... I need to work on that.

You should make a playlist of these tips and sort them in the order you think we should watch them if we're completely new to streaming, I don't know what order to watch but since I've been streaming for a fair while I've been watching them at random.

Great tip for any vod creator. If content is posted to KZbin as a sort of archive of your work, playlists are king. For example, I mostly stream Minecraft but occasionally have been known to rage at vex in Destiny -plant parsnip in Stardew -and goof off in other random games. I SHOULD be making playlists. Even under the heading of Minecraft, some subs and followers are most interested in content from specific worlds. One day I will figure out this magic ✨. But for now, thanks for the reminder even if you didn't intend it, your comment just helped me.

Big help, I mostly have viewers somehow due to me getting involved communities at a way younger age, I made a lot of friends and im able to get most of them to help me out. Your channel though is a wonderful help, Thanks.

Brilliant video thank you so much I’m going to stream Rogue Company tonight it has 400,000 follows but I had to scroll very far to find 3 viewers quite late at night!
@StreamScheme3 жыл бұрын
Wait, so you won't appear in the top 3 - 5 rows? That might be tough for someone with no viewers to grow in, better than some games but still rough.
@Swuzii3 жыл бұрын
I think I made a mistake in my wording somewhere, the third row was of people with around 5 viewers at around peak time and there was only around 20 streams with no viewers so if I retain my community when I switch I will be up the page a good amount for the time being

Every video on this channel is FIRE!! Especially this host. I am smitten he’s now on my list of streamers I want to emulate. Thank you so much for all of your work to build my mental repertoire! I have gained so much confidence in my streaming. I really can’t get enough this is an older video and truth. All the old videos still have SO much to offer all streamers/content providers. Keep up the amazing work y’all!!

Definitely something I struggle with mainly because I've been a loner antisocial for years. Which is my main goal for streaming is grow out the anti social and work on not being a loner anymore. I have many things to talk about but struggle to do so.

As a method for viewer engagement ive made a few cheat sheets for different kinds of streams, like flow charts with questions and possible responses. I’ve found it really handy and thought I should share

@@StreamScheme For games where there’s characters with abilities, like Rogue Company, Apex Legends etc, having asked all the standard how are you doing questions, I ask if they play the game, if so who’s their main, if so are they you main for the firepower or passives. It just really help

9 months after the video has posted. Anyways lovely tips! Just like improv in theatre it’s always yes, and? Affirmations then a question. Really helps when people start talking. Harder when you get a good handful of regular lurkers but no chatters.

I cant help but say you give me so much more motivation and confidence when I go live. I will definitely be using these tips in the future. My last stream didnt have a lot of chat interaction but i had an avg of 5 viewers the whole time. Hopefully i can get them chatting up so we can have even more fun.
