Michael, my live streaming is all about music. I was trying to use Streamyards for a Call In Watch party where people could come on screen with me. But the Streamyards audio quality was terrible as I tried to play YT videos by sharing my screen (Chrome Tabs). I'm thinking of moving to OBS for this because I can get much better audio quality of the videos I play.

Thanks, Michael. This was great. Another important difference between OBS and StreamYard (as StreamYard exists at the moment, in June 2020) is that the best StreamYard video resolution quality is 720p, and when I spoke with the folks at StreamYard a week or so ago, they said that there is no specific target date for when they will be adding 1080p. QUESTIONS 1. Is it absolutely necessary to use the NDI plugin to establish the video and audio connection between OBS and Skype? 2. Is using the NDI plugin a kind of universal solution to get OBS to accept video and audio connections from any video conferencing software (e.g., Zoom, etc.)?
@MichaelFeyrerJr
@MichaelFeyrerJr 3 жыл бұрын
Restream io studio should have 1080 very soon! Very and it’s similar to streamyard. :-) I have some videos showing how it works. 1: This video shows how to use Skype and any other video conferencing software without ndi. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZC3faKbg8yNrtU 2: yes if possible you will have the best outcome using ndi.

Great tutorial, but I would add: - You need a great internet connection because all the calls have to reach your local computer - The guests cannot get a return video of the live show (although you can generate a NDI from OBS and feed it to Skype through virtual input) - OBS have limited audio controls for doing a mix minus for each guest (a bus is needed) - In conclusion, it can be done, but it is very very cumbersome and prone to errors during a live show. Cheers.

Wow. That would be awesome. Honestly I’m think lag would be a huge issue for musicians in different locations. Having a conversation it’s ok if there is a slight delay. But that won’t work for music. Even professional broadcasts on tv right now are struggling with stream delay a bit so I’m not sure it’s fixable with the current available software.

Hey, Michael! Have you made an update to this comparison video? I'm writing this question on January 1st, 2024, and I am trying to decide whether or not to use StreamYard. As of today (1/1/24) it seems that StreamYard DOES address some of the 'X' items in this video, e.g. Guest Volume Control, using OBS Virtual Camera etc. Am I reading things correctly?

We are a radio station...and we stream on FB Live to broaden our audience. We’ve just started using OBS(again) but like the simplicity of StreamYard. Different shows have different amount of guests. What’s YOUR best suggestion? We run Mac computers
@MichaelFeyrerJr
@MichaelFeyrerJr 4 жыл бұрын
Streamyard limits their amount of time you can stream on a free account and also has a watermark for the free software, so assuming you are paying to remove those limitations streamyard may be the way to go UNLESS you have a producer who can monitor and run the stream while you tend to the entertaining. It’s really tough to run a quality obs stream solo if you want to add guests during the broadcast.

Nice tutorial, very useful. But I still have a question a streamyard user. We're a fan club and we are 4 fixed co-hosts, sometimes plus guests, and screensharing a lot of contents, so streamyard is the best for us, but we want an alternative for periods when the band isn't active, so 1 streaming per month will be enough and paying a whole month for 1 live feels wrong. My question is: how do I get my other guests to see the content I'm sharing so we can comment it all together? Thank you

That was a great follow up video to my comment Michael. Thank you for doing this. I use OBS to do live Fantasy Craps games every Sunday. I can only accommodate 8 guests at the moment and during my latest one I noticed their video feed was dropping in and out. I adjusted my encoding settings to lower FPS (using a Mac Pro 2013) but still the result was not what I wanted as a host. Do you have any pointers to help me on this ?
@MichaelFeyrerJr
@MichaelFeyrerJr 4 жыл бұрын
I do actually. In your output settings on obs. Go to advanced. Then change your encoder to Mac hardware. See if that helps. Also if nessasary change the canvas and output to 720 if all else fails. Most watch on a phone anyway. See if ether of these things removes the encoder overload message you are probably seeing. If not you may have just reached the limits of your machine. If you still have the issue but your cpu is below or around 50% and you are getting dropped frames and no encoder overload message it may be your connection speed.
@GeorgeFromCy
@GeorgeFromCy 4 жыл бұрын
Michael Feyrer Jr. thank you so much for the rapid response there. Canvas is at 1080 (didn’t think that was relevant). Output at 720p dropped FPS from 60 to 48. I will try GPU encoding if this might help. The machine runs on Dual Xeon processors with 2 video cards. (Should be ok-although it’s 2013 model. Lol). 2 weeks ago I got the overload message but after dropping FPS it disappeared. Truly appreciative of your reply. Thank you Michael. Keep up the great work!!
@MichaelFeyrerJr
@MichaelFeyrerJr 4 жыл бұрын
That might be your fist problem. Your encoder is downscaling from 1080 to 720. Setting both to 1080 may solve the problem. Also 48 FPS is not a standard FPS for any camera I know so that causes extra work for the encoder. Use 30 FPS if you can’t do 60. The 60 FPS just wreaks havoc on my streams. Can’t get near it.

Actually there is an error in this video. Skype NDI sends the entire call audio to every source. There is no way to isolate individual audio sources. You only need 1 skype NDI source in the mix otherwise you will get delay and feedback in the audio. The video gives incorrect information. Skype NDI does not isolate audio.
