Street Biker Tries Dirt Biking For the First Time (This Is What Happened)

I (street motorcycle rider) try dirt biking for the first time in my life, and the bike I have to ride is a 2015 Yamaha YZ450F full motocross dirt bike (FMF exhaust)... My friend let me borrow this bike to ride and it proved to be a difficult task on the single track trails out at Wildcat Pass OHV in Cave Creek, Arizona. I film my POV ride on this fairly technical desert trails. We try some downhill, some hill climbs and some sandy washes.
I am well versed in mountain biking and riding motorcycles on the street. However, it seems very little of that skillset transferred over to riding a dirt bike. I am a complete noob and beginner when it comes to offroad on two wheels. Especially a 450cc full motorcross/supercross dirt bike meant for hitting jumps. This bike did not seem well suited to enduro style riding either. I did have fun (minus the frustrating parts.) My friend is riding a 2023 KTM 450XC-F.

You actually did really good considering it was your first time and you were on a 450! I know this video is old and I don't know if you intend to ever ride again, but some tips I can give are to sit far up on the seat, and you were right, standing up is the way to go when you go over bumps or climbing hills. Dropping the bike or wiping out definitely sucks but everyone does it, even pros. Great channel with videos that are fun to watch!

really tempermental race bikes so you have to work the clutch especially with a 450 on a smaller trail

Yeah I’m just learning that there are dirt bikes better suited to this type or riding. Although this is the only bike I had to ride that day.
