1 year late but I don't really care Dan is not a joke in Street Fighter 5, he's more than good enough for high level play. The AI fighters also looked really easy, and in Character Story mode you start with max meter for both EX and V-system, when your opponent doesn't get any.

I'm I the only one who wants to see dan but he actually succeeds at becoming a professional teacher in his fighting style and gets an apprentice. I mean a lot of the characters are getting older so maybe giving dan a successor to a person who is unironically a fan of him would be a cool concept.

I was sorta expecting the same thing, like SNK used Khushnood Butt as Ryo’s student/apprentice in Garou: Mark of the Wolves. They could have used him fighting with a much better Saikyo style than Dan did, challenging Sagat or any other fighter, suddenly comes back to Dan’s dojo, and Dan had forgotten about this guy. However, someone showed a viral video that Dan sees of that fighter’s moves that he became popular, and Dan mooches off of him to let him stay and to bring more students in. XD

Part of me was honestly expecting that this was the game where Dan got some actual positive growth. Like, he's clearly an objectively better fighter at this point, so even if he was still kinda a joke story wise, I was hoping there'd be some actually improvement, like him actually getting a student who unironically wants to be a student, or he matures enough to realize why it is that his dojo just never really took off.

Yes, but it wasn't to win. He wanted to get to Sagat (who was the champion at the time) who killed his father. So out of sheer willpower, Dan climbed to the top of the tournament and got to face Sagat. However Sagat felt bad for Dan, and threw the fight so Dan could avenge his father. Dan was deemed the new champion but rejected all winnings and the title since he already got what he came for
