It's a retcon, sadly. In Alpha 3 Akuma specifically states that it's "not my fists but your past sins" as he teleports his opponent to Hell where they attacked by demons. The more sins committed, the deadlier the attack. Hence the name Instant Hell Murder. Seeing Akuma just punch his victim repeatedly takes the mystique out of it. 😢

The fact that Akuma has become so powerful that he's desperate for a good fight is probably the best way they could've taken his character. I also love the subtle mannerisms he has now, like actually smiling at the possibility that he has a real fight on his hands to the fact that he almost looks sad after killing his opponent, like he either saw too much in them or it was over too quickly. Either way, it feels like the natural next step for a character who is all about getting stronger, no matter the cost, as what do you have left to accomplish once you've reached the top?

He is The True Master of The Fist or dramatically the Demon of Killing Intent (Akuma Satsui No Hado). Plus if you listen to the english version of his Raging Demon it almost sounds like "To Shake the Heavens, and Reach the Summit, Become The Demon" while I'm sure in Japanese it's worded different but the meaning is the same. Akuma wants a fight to prove worthy of his skill and teaching and outside of Ryu or Ken (if Ken gave into the Satsui No Hado) he has no worth while challenge. Especially since neither of his brother's pupils ended up going down his path but come close to this power.

From watching this trailer, I think it’s safe to conclude that Akuma is just as awesome as we all expected him to be. My favorite part: seeing what Akuma actually does to his opponent during the Raging Demon. I love the idea that it’s him creating a bunch of shadow clones of himself that all strike his opponent in rapid succession. It’s way cooler than what SFV showed.

A really cool bit of lore at the start of the video with Akuma performing the Metsu Shoryuken on the trainee. It may look like the Shin Shoryuken, and Akuma may look more like Gouken now, but the actual uppercut during the Shin Shoryuken is always performed with the left hand so it never kills. On the other hand (quite literally in this case), the Metsu Shoryuken's uppercut is always done with the right hand and taps into the Satsui no Hado. That should also say something of how much self-control Akuma has that he never allowed it to consume him entirely and turn him into Oni.

@@aalba308 well the Shin Shoryuken is the strongest move in Ryu and Gouken's arsenal and it NEVER kills. I'd like to think Akuma/Gouki would pull off the Satsui no Hado counterpart to that and not kill with it just to show how much control he has. Though if you're on the receiving end, you're going to feel like you're dead anyhow. Akuma doesn't kill randomly. Everyone he kills has it coming.

Actually when Akuma was introduced in 1994, he was misunderstood to be the master of Ryu and Ken, until it was explained clearly in Alpha 2 that he's the brother of Gouken, the master.

You hear Akuma saying "Ascend the heavens, become the demon" etc. which is likely in reference to himself. It's basically the user overpowering someone with their killing intent it seems
