Agreed with all of the comments. We see Ryu talking about the warrior's journey and the fight, but we see a lot more background and personality. We learn how he earns a living (and it's not too bad to have rich friends). He isn't this stern warrior, but someone who participates in festivals with friends, has boomer moments with a smartphone, and has a "will he/won't he moment" with Chun Li while rocking some fine clothes :) . Simply put, he enjoys life. What got to me the most was how he appreciates learning about other cultures. Studying martial arts hasn't closed him off (like an Akuma), but opened his eyes to the rest of the world. He is truly a world warrior. Never been prouder to be a Ryu fan!

Ryu's character development is impeccable. From just a fighter who was hobo by choice and seeking next challenge to Master who overcame and subdued Satsui No Hado, learned the power of nothingness and who actually had at least 2 students (if we count as one). I remember when I was playing in Arcade or on PC street fighter II. I picked him by accident but instantly picked him as my main after. Now when I see him, it actually brings tears of joy how he spends time with his friends like Ken and Chun Li. To this day I have to admit nobody has better bromance than Ken and Ryu. Gouken would be proud of him if he could see that... I'm proud to main him in other street fighter games.

@@_MANDOWN_ Travel expenses is already addressed, he works physical labor and has Ken's financial support to cover those. Food and Hygiene is EASY to solve for Ryu, nothing that the money he earns in his jobs can't cover, that or he can just gather food outside by himself for free or clean himself in a river, especially since he's now in Japan were that's all practical. He probably doesn't need that much health maintenance either, guy's basically a ripped monk who's living a very healthy life, at worst; he'd need to go to the dentist because of the sweets that Retsu gives him, but I'd imagine he needs the dentist as much as real life medieval people-- which is pretty much not very much.

He really doesn't need Oro even though Oro's training helped him tremendously it wasn't going to help him overcome The Satsu No Hado only Gouken's training with the Power of Nothingness was going to help Ryu. all the previous masters of Ansatsuken had to deal with balancing the Power of Nothingness and The Satsu No Hado to achieve true mastery of it's style.

ya someday. but for those who played the SF3 series all of the games from new gen to third strike... there was a neat little story arc with oro and ryu. he was basically looking for a worthy warrior to pass down his teachings. it wasnt that special until in third strike we get a glimpse of how powerful Oro really way. having that mid fight with akuma and being the only one in the lore at that point to draw him. post satsui grand mastery!! it was an epic feat. also akuma is already a grand master. his self title of master of the fist has a meaning. lol. he isnt controlled by the power of satsu. like so many others have fallen victim to. which is why he is special. as for oni thats a what if... if akuma does lose control. so yeah it was a major letdown for us and also the potential what if style of oro techniques ryu would have learned. the munoken hax is pure plot asspull tho. to have a reason to bring gouken back. when akuma already surpassed him and unalived him. then now when dark hado was meant to be the pinnacle and true form of the art itself... we have this watered down gouken version. which is somehow able to keep up with it. goutetsu himself also practiced the satsui but never to the full potential the way akuma did. thats why he was proud when akuma defeated him. goukens style isnt true ansatsuken. its modified. its meant to be brutal. so hopefully akuma gets to carry on his legacy for a couple more SF games before capcom decides to end their arc. @@Profecktion2K

@@ssppeeaarr As someone who has played the sf3 games, Oro and Ryu's relationship was cool and interesting, but I never ever got the sense that Ryu would magically learn to overcome the Satsui no Hado through it at all. It didn't seem to have enough weight to really convince me that Oro would have that role in the story's future. The Mu No Ken is functionally designed to do exactly that, and is the pinnacle of what Gouken pursued with the Ansatsuken style, a non-brutal, merciful version, changing the Assassin's Fist into something more, so teaching it to Ryu is obviously perfect for his Satsui no Hado troubles. Gouken and Akuma were both students of Goutetsu, and just like Ryu and Ken, they both went down different paths with the same martial art. That isn't bad. You calling it a watered-down version is kinda disrespectful ngl, you just seem to not like Gouken. Sorry to say, but Akuma didn't kill him, and that's that. Heavily implied Gouken beat him in SF4 too. I don't exactly like the retcon either, but the Mu No Ken is the coolest technique Ryu has in his arsenal, and the Denjin series is badass.

I think Ryu will eventually move on to further training with Oro and perhaps become another mystic hermit in the future. No one else in the Street Fighter franchise loves martial arts as much as he does, maybe in all of the fighting video game genre! Still, he is simply being himself here.

There's not many good evidence or motivations to suggest that especially when Gouken is still alive even in the SF6 as implied by Ryu in this vid. Sure; he'd train/trained with Oro the same way he "trained" with/against other fighters, but instead of adopting Oro's moves; all he'd do is further improve his own technique to be better, just as he says in this video.

None of those pairings make sense, Ryu and Chun-Li are just two warriors walking their own paths while improving and passing their own wisdom through their own ways, they're only friends through battles as they help and respect and learn from each other. Sakura only idolizes Ryu and wants to be a strong fighter like he is, there are no emotions that aren't related or are beyond fascination and the desire to follow his footsteps, also the age difference is way too high for them to even work in that way. In SFV, Sakura even realizes that there's something else in her life other than traveling the world looking for fights, and she comes to a decision to build up a life she sees fit, making Ryu fascinated about her this time around, calling her goals loftier than his.

Get his fighting style to level 18, he'll give you a sidequest to do, and it's the completion reward. You can also get his ripped gi by doing the challenges when you spar with him, iirc it's get two perfect Drive parries and KO him with a Super.
