Street Fighter II World Warrior - Sagat

"YOU ARE NOT A WARRIOR. YOU'RE A BEGINNER!"
So this is the new boss hack for SFII World Warrior. Interesting enough, Sagat's special move commands were NOT butchered from the way we all know how to use them since SFII Champion Edition. However, Sagat does NOT have a throw, or a tripping attack, which makes it a bit harder to play with. Also, every one of his normal attacks hit like a heavy attack. That is to be expected, as the World Warrior bosses were not playable to begin with.
Here's Sagat's move set:
- High Tiger Shot - ↓,↘,→, Punch button.
- Low Tiger Shot - ↓,↘,→, Kick button.
- Tiger Uppercut - →,↓,↘, Punch button.
Additional info:
- Sagat's Tiger Shots have a quicker recovery time.
- Sagat's punch animations are inverted. So his actual punch is a light punch attack, and his elbow attack frames are medium and heavy punch attacks.
- It's interesting to note that Sagat finally has sound effects during his normal attack animations. This is something that Sagat was lacking in the original SFII World Warrior.
Sagat is basically using E.Honda's character slot here, considering that E.Honda is his last opponent you face before the final 4 bosses. Not to mention that Sagat is using E.Honda's Victory Win screen animations at the end as well. Again, this was to be expected.
For what this was worth to me, this was a long, overdue hack for the arcade version! Probably one of the best versions I've ever played in the Street Fighter II series. I'd like to thank the hacker for putting his efforts into making this possible!

sagat is easy to counter. especially when he does the tiger uppercut, he will receive alot of damage. you saw vega's air kick counter him and it took off a fair chunk of life from Sagat. also ken and ryu' s dragon punch and heavy air kicks will always win against sagat's tiger uppercut.

Definitely World warrior (thought it to be Champion edition on first look). One can tell by the damage, timeframes and the characters portraits. Worth only the study experience since there are clear abuses and disadjusted AI behavior: -AI can't properly avoid high tiger shots. If ticked the AI will try to jump it late. -AI "defends" low on Sagat jump in. -All normals are heavy normals in damage, timeframe and stun (and animation). And for those who found strange the uppercut at 13:40, take in consideration that in world warrior certain moves would leave you extra damage vulnerable (damage would be doubled). Vega's barcelona attack, Blanka's rolling attack, Balrog's turning punch, Sagat's tiger uppercut and Bison's psycho crusher were those moves. Any attack on those will reap a ton of damage.

Tigger Uppercut and Blanka's Rolling Atack were programmed in SF2 World Warrior to be most vulnerable than the other special moves - both when defeated result in uncommoun loss on energy bar. I guess the team of developers decided it would be a form of compensate the two circumstances: 1) The huge damage Tigger Uppercut causes when Sagat hits an enemy; 2) The fact you're expected to use light punch or light kick to defeat Blanka's Rolling Attack. Once light punch and light kick cause less damage than Rolling Attack and a strong punch or kick also cause less damage than Tiger uppercut, this programming decision can balance the things.

Alex K. Hmm, I thought they took extra "counter" damage for any attack, not just specials? But yeah I remember using Blanka's cannonball roll on Sagat, who countered with Tiger Uppercut and took out almost my entire health bar in one go. Maybe the bosses' special attacks inflict more damage against the player, at least in World Warrior?

The bosses in World Warrior do more damage, have a higher hit priority and also recover faster than in CE. Check out Balrog literally mowing down the opposition in record time with quick and powerful combos and Vega beating opponents with just 4-5 regular hits. All the bosses got nerfed big time in CE and Turbo but Capcom had to nerf them because otherwise they would have been unbeatable in the hands of a decent player. In WW, each boss has one powerful special attack with a double damage factor when being hit during its execution: Balrog's Turn Punch, Vega's Izuna Drop, Sagat's Tiger Uppercut and Bison's Psycho Crusher. This was likely meant to balance them out a bit, even though the SF AI isn't very bright (much less so than SNK bosses for example). Blanka is the only playable char with a double damage sensitive special, his Rolling Attack, even though Blanka isn't particularly powerful.

Alex K. Very interesting! I was hoping to disassembling and annotating the CPS ROM to see how this stuff works, but never found time. When playing as the bosses in WW via hacks, their moves are quite odd -- like the fact that their "weak" punches and kicks caused the same damage as a strong punch/kick. I suspect there are a whole bunch of undiscovered bugs just waiting to be converted into a very entertaining TAS :)

Yep, their "weak" attacks are fast and have a jab sound but actually do fierce damage. I only got a buggy arcade hack that crashes every time I try to grab/throw someone. What is the name of the file in this video and how do I use it?

If Sagat weren't so slow, I'd recommend him for beginners without reservation. I would say Ken, Ryu, and E. Honda are the best for beginners. E. Honda may seem like a strange choice. But just knowing his torpedo can get you really far. It's easy to do his 100 hand slap. And even if he gets cornered, he can often torpedo his way out. And knowing when to do his high punch and crouching punch defends you from many advances.

My life-long interest in the martial arts has actually been revived by watching these Street Fighter II KZbin videos. Now, as soon as I get my other affairs settled down and in place I want to sign up for adult martial arts classes (as well as hit the gym). I will definitely consider Muay Thai along with MMA, Tae Kwon Doe, Kung Fu, and even Kickboxing. I'm not quite as interested in the throwing defense styles like Judo and Jiu Jitsu; I would just like to know the very basics of those. I would love to be a real life version of Sagat.....without all the scars.

Jugador no sabe ocupar bien el mono y abusa de tirar muchos fuegos... Pero esos rodillazos quitaba mucha energía, mi favorito para ganar y si eres de chile, te acordarás en los juegos dianas cuando hacían los torneos y yo no es por ser... Oh my god. people are _still_ trying to claim the Dragon Punch/Tiger Uppercut/etc.'s button input is →, ↓ ,↘, punch/kick??? In the 30 + year history of those moves, that input has _never_ worked. Frankly, at this point I think that input had to have been a typing error in the original instruction booklets and strategy guides. The correct button input is →, ↓, ↘, →, punch/kick and always has been.

It always strikes me that Sagat has a very crusty lower lip back in the original Street Fighter II portrait, but was then changed afterwards.

+Roger Most of WW's portraits were redrawn in later revisions; for the better IMO. I remember being thrown off by this as WW was the last of the SF2 revisions I played BITD ("Why does Ryu look so wimpy?")

+UptownDanRam - But that still doesn't explain the fact that no one seem to notice or mention Sagat's crusty lower lip in the SF2 portrait. It just mysteriously disappeared. I guess the same could be said of Dhalsim's pupils mysteriously disappeared after SF2.

Roger I noticed, it's just a minuscule change as his portrait remained largely the same in CE and HF.

If only Capcom would put cheat codes in Street Fighter II: The World Warrior like "Unlock All Bosses" and "Turbo Mode". Then we wouldn't need redundant overhauls like SFII': Champion Edition and SFII Turbo: Hyper Fighting.
