Thats why its so hard to look at metrics in Nigeria to gauge the economy. Its more money sent home from expats and family in other countries than Foreign Direct Investment. Many people have a hustle so that doesn't really accurately show joblessness rates although it shows unemployment slightly better. Also alot of these numbers dont reflect GDP which is already the top 25 biggest economy in the world.

@@stepfrom1500 True. One economist has estimated that as much as 60% of the Nigerian economy is informal & cannot be captured by statisticians. That's mind-boggling.

This is why I don't believe any of these data that are published by some of these big names about the level of poverty in Nigeria.... you see, even the smallest business that people do in nigeria is very lucrative......and the GDP of nigeria is definitely not what they say it is....never. I love Nigeria.

The issue is the north, 85% of Nigerians living in abject proverty are from the Northern part of the country, most nigerians that are uneducated are in the north, even girl child marriage rates is the highest in the north. Their politicians don't want to improve the north.

@@v.e4103 i made my first statement after carrying out an assessment in the least wealthy places in this country....I mean the part were the resources are least distributed, a place where one can not even go to the farm without a clearance from the military. When you make statement like that, its because you have no knowledge of the real situation. I say, even the least cadre in the social have the potential of making at least 2 dollars a day, except they decide to do nothing or those that embrace the virtuous circle of poverty in their family.

But on the other hand, the way Nigerians are so hard working and less dependent on Government is the reason why corruption runs rampant in Government. God bless Nigerians.

Lol. You sound naive. Corruption is nothing but the system that in place. Capitalism breed corruption. We adapt to western system and you think corruption will not be part of it. Merikkka capitalism is the most corrupt system in the world. It don't work for Africa
@krachouse
@krachouse 2 жыл бұрын
Naive you wrote? Hmmm! Was that really necessary? Do you Nigerians care to know the people you elect into positions of power? You all acting like you don't care because a bag of rice is offered and money (lil amount compared to what will be stolen) is shared for votes, if the Akara sellers and groundnut hawkers are aware that the tax money they pay to the government is refundable (by law), and that good Education and health care is a right of the people, corruption wouldn't run so rampant, so next time you wanna insult someone, read a book or two first.

An ultra neoliberal state gives off the illusion of financial freedom but most people are just struggling to survive! If they do not have strong family support, they will always be subject to difficulties caused by unforeseen circumstances. The few who make it to the top on their own will always be the exception.
