Street running train in Franklin, Ohio, railroad diamonds in Marion, Ohio, awesome Norfolk Southern locomotives in action and a cross buck protected railroad crossing. What do you think about the street running track on the industrial spur that also goes over the big trestle over the Great Miami River? Not many trains use the street runner section. There is only one customer that is served by the street running track and they don't use the track every day. The train that works the Franklin Industrial spur, L-04, also does some switching on the other side of the river on the same spur. I filmed the locomotive running down the street on its way to pick up some cars from the other side of the river. They coupled onto some covered hoppers and I filmed them again crossing the road at a cross buck protected crossing in Franklin. I think its awesome to see the trains run down the middle of the street here. The only better place in Ohio for street runners is in Marietta. See my Street Running Trains section to see trains in the street in Marietta: • Street Running Trains This video also includes bonus footage that I never posted in Marion, Ohio on the Norfolk Southern line at the railroad diamonds. The train in Franklin, Ohio was filmed on November 30, 2021. Thanks for watching! I really appreciate your support! Please leave a comment, rate up or down and PLEASE SUBSCRIBE TO JAWTOOTH!!

If Neil Peart was still alive, I am certain that he would have tried to create samples for his electronic percussion setup. I am sure he could manually recreate the sounds of the steel wheels crossing and create a nifty entertaining video to go along with that!

If you want to know if tracks are in service go to a spot next to, but off of a crossing and check to see if the top of the rail is shinny or rusty. If it’s just a light surface rust it could mean there has not been a train recently. Rail will get some surface rust over night if it rains, has some dew, or other moisture. Which will go back to being shinny once a train with a few cars runs over it. If it’s heavily rusted it could be out of service or even abandoned.

For some good street running, downtown Fayetteville NC has a line that runs down the middle of Russel St for over a mile and then switches the industries there, around lunch time, blocking traffic for a while. I've been stuck there many times when I lived there.

If you look closely at the rear bogie of the last car on the train, you can see that the left axle in the direction of travel is not turning. This is because the white point located very close to the axle axis is stationary. The axle is therefore locked and slips on the rail. The cause is probably a blocked brake on this axle. If the problem lasts too long, a flat area may form on the tread surface.

Awhile back from 2014 to 2016 I worked for a company that remanufactures used railroad equipment. Everything from the bolsters that hold the rail car wheels to the rail car wheels themselves. That clanging sound you hear! Let me explain that from what I know while working at that company. Those rail car wheels are exactly like the front rotors of your cars braking system. They wear when constantly rolling on the rail line. As the wear of the rail car wheels become more pronounced they begin to make that clanging noise. The wear of the wheels is routinely checked by the railroad company whoever that might be. If the wear becomes to pronounced they shipped the wheels to the company that will shave the wear off of the wheels making them smooth again. When the wheels are smooth they shouldn't make that noise. I use to do flux core welding rebuilding the bolsters that hold the wheels. Let me tell ya that job can be a real bi#ch depending on how bad the bolster is worn out. Putting flux core welding on them rebuilds the bolster back up to railroad specs. And believe me the specs are really strict. Northfolk Southern and BNSF will not allow more then 1/16 of a gap. I quit that damn place because the company was pushing and pushing for more production and it was very difficult to rebuild 3 bolsters a day when you have bolster that is so worn out and cracked. I was stressed out and told them to stick the job up there ass. On a final note. It is possible for the rail line itself to be causing that clanging noise. The rail lines wear out just like the rail car wheels themselves. If that is the case then the rail lines need replaced. From what I see in this video it is not the rail car wheels making that noise but the railroad lines themselves

Huh. Look at that. Sure enough. See if I can describe this one...It was right after you mentioned the wheels "sounding weird" or something like that. Ironically, it's exactly at the 6:00-mark. Had to replay it a few times but on that last car, if you look close at axle #3 (based on the direction the train's heading)...those wheels are not turning. The hub gives it away. I wonder where the defect detector's located...Red flag THAT puppy. That's too bad.

Marion Ohio was known as the haunted city circa late 1970's. Many ex-Erie Lackawanna, Reading, Lehigh Valley, and Penn Central units passed by that location in full defunct paint schemes with two different fonts of " CR " styles on the sides and noses. One used the CR initials from Penn Central. The other used the " CR " font from the new ConRail. Norfolk & Western was the other road through Marion.

I really enjo street runners :) Great bonus footage - a double diamond! When you look at the cars on that last train - what a variety of stuff! Gondolas with who knows what in them, boxcars, tankers, etc. Very cool - and that is a great angle :)

A great video, with a long train. And the street train was neat. 👍😊🇺🇸
