Savate is one of the most important fighting systems in Bruce Lee's original Jun Fan Gung-Fu. Savate has many devastating kicks.

JKD doesn't have Savate in it, but you can put Savate on a JKD frame work, or vice versa. They are very compatible. JKD is Wing Chun, Fencing and western Boxing with kicking Bruce developed through experimentation which has similarities to several arts. Add knees and elbows and grappling and foul tactics with emphasis on strong side forward, intercepting and expressing yourself. I trained with Bruce Lee students, and the most well known Dan Inosanto "backyard student" for 17 years. Was privy to most of the living Bruce Lee students thoughts on what Bruce taught him as well as Linda Lee, and John Little's research into Bruce's copious notes. Bruce looked at all arts including Savate to know how to beat them not to incorporate them. . He did not incorporate Savate into JKD, although JKD's snappiness and flow is similar in some respects to Savate. There are big differences.

Thé problem is that street fights are so rare in some places. I grew up where they were almost never happening and never deadly. I later ended up getting into a few but they were always very short because the guy or guys who attacked did not expect me to react so fast and so violently. I either fight like I am Insane or i run away as fast as I can. By insane I mean with no fear and with intent to cause a lot of damage. You must fight hard in a street fight. If you are careful and unsure you will get beaten. Go for it and you will have your best chance to destroy the jerk. Or, better still, just run away. If the guy is chasing, wait until he almost has you and fall to the ground so he falls over you,

I love the low attack joint strike while creating distance. But remember be loud tell the person to back off ect make a big deal because you can be right and still go to jail. if the front push kick breaks a knee or the low toe hook breaks an ankle you went from a disorderly conduct to a felony battery real fast. but better judged by 12 than carried by 6

I have an old issue of Black Belt magazine from June 1987 with an article on Savate. This was where I first heard of Professor Daniel Duby. In the article he demonstrates with Paul Vunak of JKD Savate techniques. He along with another late legend, Professor Salem Assli were pioneers of Boxe Française in America. @Santeria78 Zipota is a martial art very similar to and related to Boxe Française Savate. It has knife and stick/cane fighting as well. Supposedly, the leap kicks in Savate were influenced by Basque foot fighting.

It's not a demonstration but a lesson people don't get it here, but he does give very good advices, managing distance and keeping balance to preserve yourself. Then the kick low on the sheen with shoes I don't care what people here have to say it WILL make anyone dance on one legs and it's really not something you expect in a street fight, the knee pop is instant win no question about it. The attension is above at head level in street fight and from that kicking distance you don't expect to get hurt that low, in situation you'll probably won't even see it coming so the kick is quite safe and can be the end of the fight, I think it's better than starting straight with punches just to leave the fight with a broken hand at best...

no JKD is the way of the intercepting fist so techniques have to intercept an attack in some way (so saying "To use Jeet Kune Do is to use multiple martial arts" by itself might make the art look like MMA)

@@ricksterdrummer2170 Yes, there's a lot of boxing in JKD, I wouldn't have known it either if I hadn't trained in the art myself. Bruce Lee mostly admired Mohammed Ali, his footwork and rapid punching combos.

Kicking is a great way to lose a fight. Bruce said he wouldn’t kick above the groin in reality. That’s all for movies, and savate.
@DavidHernandez-dk1zs Жыл бұрын
Correction, kicking above the groin is a great way to lose a fight. Bruce Lee believed that a good fighter should be able to use every part of their body as a weapon, from feet to knees to elbows to even fingers and teeth. I've seen a few street fighting videos that ended with hard kicks to the legs, kicks when done properly work very well.
@TheSubwaysurfer Жыл бұрын
They are a guys who are skilled enough to spin back kick people in the head in a real fight. It depends on the individual. I admit it’s risky and not recommended to kick about the grind but if you are adept at kicking it would totally take a person by surprise especially if he doesn’t know how to deal with an attack from that angle. No as far as kicking being a great way to lose a fight how can you say that since SAVATE itself is a STREETFIGHTING art!

I mean honestly I personally wouldn’t use a headkick in a street fight. Sure in theory I could perfect my head kick but it’s still high risk move. I’m definitely sticking with kicks to the groin and below. I’m still going to practice them however
