Just transferred to the Highway Dept. overnight shift sweeping streets. No formal instruction so this video ( and others I will watch) will teach me the correct procedures. Thanks for posting this!

Thanks for the tips. Part of this video covers water in the curb. I tried it one day while it was raining. It worked so well that I sweep in the rain all the time like that. I take a block at a time. It's slower but it does a better job and there's not near as much water to contend with. Thanks again. Waukegan ( IL)

Is it safe for an Elgin Pelican to make a u turn with the main broom down? Also does the link count( adjustment chains) on the main broom adjustment have to be the same on both sides? Im told the link count has to be less on the pump side of the main broom due to the weight. I find this wears the broom unevenly. It still wears uneven when the link count is the same.

If the road surface is smooth, yes you are safe making a U turn with the main broom down. If you catch a water shut off a manhole or any other thing that is sticking up from the surface with your side shoe when you are in a sharp turn. The side shoe is probably going to bend. The pump side of the main broom is heavier. With the sweeper stopped drop and turn on the main broom burn a pattern. Move the sweeper check the pattern, If I remember right about 4 inches wide all the way across is about right. If you notice the broom wearing uneven add pressure to the longer side keeping about a 4 inch pattern on the shorter side. The pattern and even wear is far more important than the link count that gets you there.

You can damage a Pelican?

Yes you can

@@breebree6121 I was being facetious. They pick up what a lot won't but nothing is indestructible. Never frove Pelicans or Wayne's Only FMC three wheels.
