This is awesome. It's cool to see the transformation of this car from a bone stock I30N to a car that is capable of competing in time attack races with purpose built professional racecars. Just think of how far Hyundai has come since the early to mid 90s when they were using Mitsubishi engines, and now they're producing cars that are actually competitive straight off the showroom floor. Great work Hyundai! I'm blown away.

Brand snobs everywhere! all those slating it clearly have never seen or been in one. These retail at £28500 so about £4-5k cheaper than the type R, spend that on simple mods like exhaust, intercooler and induction it will match if not better the type R.. another point on how the N is a better car is all the settings can be customised, so you can have full performance with softer suspension. In the type R you can’t individually set up the car, it’s R mode or nothing. The cornering on the Hyundai is fantastic on the British roads so until you’ve been in or own one get the facts right, it’s a lot of car for the value

Love Hyundai, but Type R comes with much better handling out of factory.
@pseiofosdrei4 жыл бұрын
And then the Type R gets a simple Stage 1 Remap and runs 375hp, bye bye 🙈 Just stop talking bullshit, you clearly dont't know much about cars. The i30N was _never_ meant to be a Racecar. The Engine is a standard Hyundai/Kia Theta II from 2010 and is also used in many base models like Hyundai Santa Fe, Sonata and Kia Optima, Sorento and Sportage. And no, it wasnt modified to run in the N models. Alfred Biermann just wanted a cheap car that brings joy to the masses and he knew that it wouldnt beat cars like the the Civic or a Megane. Thats why they never tried to break a record on the Nürburgring. It simply wasnt built to do this and thats why it is so heavy too. As i mentioned before: its a street car with a bit more horsepower for the masses and not a Rececar for the road like the Civic Type R, Renault Megane RS Trophy R or Golf GTI TCR. The Type R was built to break the record for fwd cars on all race tracks in the world and thats a big difference. Honda made a new Engine, new Gearbox, new Suspension and so on...they are simply 2 complete different cars so please stop comparing them and just enjoy driving your car 😉

Hard to gauge as most of the parts were prototypes that are still being worked on. Retail will be somewhere around there. Just the basics like fmic/chip/exhaust and brake pads will get you 90% of the way there and be less than $5k. Another $2k for wheels and tyres and you're almost there.

build costs are really way off in reality, For the average person the mods are going to be at least $10k aud worth, then you are forgetting labor costs or time, which again in reality are at least another $3-5k, depending on mates rates or no tax cash deals. So really its around $13-15k aud. maybe in Aus but here in NZ there is only a $4000 aud difference between a Type R and i30n, I appreciate what Hyundai have done with this thing, however the base performance ( with the same tyres of course) of a type R is noticeably higher. So if i was ever to buy something new, the Type R would clearly win my pick. Do what they have done, and it would obviously be faster again.

To be honest we need more straight line speed to make up for the drag of the wing. Until a full ecu is available we are very limited to power output. Currently we're full bolt on and piggy back. Great project! The man-maths is awesome though, even better than my own. The MCA Reds, XForce exhaust and Race Chip alone break the $6,000 mark and then there's all the other stuff. And if you're a muppet like me with tools then you need to factor in fitting costs. The time, effort and expense going into this project is fantastic. Please continue with more updates with all of the different events this car enters. Looking forward to it.
@StreetFXofficial6 жыл бұрын
+Yuri Chernenko please note the exhaust is a catless system with no resonators (race only) so far cheaper than a valvetronic street one. Racechip is around $900. Mca reds run around $2500. Intercooler alone will be around $1k when released. We didn't include the cosmetic mods as they haven't got a price tag yet. It's hard to tell how much the total to a general consumer will be since most of this gear is prototype stuff and costs a lot to develop, so customers will have it easier once we get the formula down :)
@DOO00K6 жыл бұрын
No doubt! And I get you'd have some sponsorship or promotion agreement with the various suppliers. But just for fun I thought I'd put a guesstimate together for a road registered and road legal car (and even then you'd need it engineered in NSW): MCA Reds = $2,900 XForce turbo back 3" Varex with cat = $3,000 Racechip = $900 GCG high-flowed turbo = $500 PWR intercooler & radiator = $1,200 Koya Wheels = $1,520 Yokohama AD08R = $1,400 Circo brake pads and slotted disc rotors = $850 Custom air intake with pod = $350 TOTAL = $12,620 (+ fitting) Then there are a few things not on the list like race seat, harness, Blits FRP bonnet, CF splitter, CF skirts, TCR hatch with wing, tuning, etc.

So if i was ever to buy something new, the Type R would clearly win my pick. Do what you have done, and it would obviously be faster again. The Hyundai $55k nzd, is a better bang for buck in that case, i would certainly pick it instead and do what you guys have done.
@StreetFXofficial6 жыл бұрын
We didn't include some of the costs as they weren't so much performance oriented. With $6-8k you could get very close to the package we put together. Power mods alone, without an proper ecu tune we couldn't take advantage of fully. All the support is there for another 60-80hp, but needs a full ecu and e85 tune. The build was done on a budget but yes being prototypes can be far more expensive than a production run, so I was estimating what it *should* cost once put into production.

I could not stop watching at the car releasing black smoke, I guess that the map needs more development and they went on the safe side regarding AFR. How it was with oil temperatures? Usually stock cars with just a remap tend to get quite high oil temps at track.
