The 1UZ was one of the very few engines made for a car that the manufacturer designed well enough to be built as an aircraft engine. Toyota went a long way towards getting it certified for such use but never saw it through due to cost. The only OHC V8 I would ever consider for a long term OHC v8 swap.

lol this is gonna eat the 304ci GMH motor alive. If only Toyota back then had the balls to put the 4.0L V8 Quad cam into the Lexcen the bogans might of went hmmm, GMH v8 or Toyota V8 it would of also shirt scared Ford which were using the 302ci Windsor instead of using the big boy 351ci which FORD did have access to but chose not to use it. But that is the past, the future will see this V8 Lexcen wagon be one of the best CARNAGE project builds done.

@351tgv unless it was a HSV V8 lol especially the blue printed stroked one making 226kw/507nm vs 1UZ's 196kw/353nm 😜 The more common VS HSV V8 though was the non stroked 185kw/400nm one, so weighs around 25kg heavier than a 1UZ engine and 10kw less, but makes 47nm more torque. Now that would be pretty closely matched.

Love the 1UZ - used to have a UZZ30 Soarer back in the late 90's that I sold my mid-20's soul to purchase, but had some of the best weekend adventures (with random girlfriends) in my life in - that ultra smooth V8 - I don't know how Toyota did it but it was smoother than a lot of inline 6's or even V12's. These days I have a 1UR-FSE Lexus, and again, what an engine! Smooth as the 1UZ, but also makes decent power even N/A, and much more fuel efficient. Of course now I'm married with kids so no more weekend adventures. I've seen the 1UZ make mad power even N/A though in oddball applications like speed boats.

@@STREETMACHINETV Back in the 90's even in the chubby Soarer it wasn't a slow car - as I recall mine would manage a sub 7 second 0-100 and low 15 quarter (which these days is slow as fuck, but back then was pretty decent). Given it's a fairly stout bottom end and reasonable rods + the 4 litre displacement, should be possible to get a chunky torque curve out of it even at low boost? I remember seeing one in twin turbo guise in the early 2000's in the Rally of NZ - can't remember how it did though, I was just impressed by the engineering.

no when heads were removed the water went on top of pistons then it sat eating out the bores, that happened to me on a 4g64 engine that had mint bores, then my engine sat for 6 months then when checked and turned over the bores were damaged by the water sitting around the rings also the water damage only sits at the lowest point, a clear indication of water damage always blow the water out past the rings then oil the bores and turn it over so the oil is around the rings and in the bores to prevent damage

Remember when your honing make your strokes Fast as you possibly can, otherwise your cross hatch will be too horizontal, all you are basically doing is deglazing but you still want that crosshatch be 45* if possible ! That’s a bummer that you didn’t think you were gonna have to do any more work to though I’ve been there many times lol probably why I don’t trust anything that comes into the shop anymore that was either built by somebody else or guaranteed by somebody else!!! Also most the time when you put ARP rod bolts in you will want to have the rods resized because the ARP bolts clamp load is much higher and that can distort the connecting rod housing bore, now sometimes there is enough clearance to wear it doesn’t make a difference but other times it can cause problems in which case sometimes it’s better to replace them with the factory rod bolts if you can’t afford to get any machine work done
