awesome, vibrant, postindustrial, green, enormous parks, quaint suburbs, very good schools, fantastic universities, home to one of the world´s largest and most popular library, most multicultural metropolis in europe, plenty of jobs in the city and metro area, plenty of canals too, host city for the commonwealth games 2022 with some massive construction and infrastructure projects ongoing and planned for the coming years, welcome to birmingham uk

Great to see positive comments about Brum. One of the greenest cities in the country. Mainly clean and tidy, modern, young and vibrant. Gone are the tired excuses for calling it a concrete block with a ring road. Excellent place to live, work and play. Wouldn't live anywhere else and getting better all the time.

I wonder if we'll look back at films like this in 50 yrs and feel nostalgic about 'old Brum' I rather doubt it to be honest

Apparently there are more canals in Birmingham than in Venice! Should make more use of them.

Heavy rail coverage is pretty decent, which makes up for it a bit. Helps that the conurbation is fairly stretched out. But I agree, we could do with two more lines. The metro extension from Snow Hill to New Street is underway at last.

It is the Hall of Memory in Centenary Square. It commemorates the soldiers who died in WWI. On Armistice Day (Nov 11), wreaths of poppies are laid out in and around the hall.

I prefer Birmingham the way it was 15-20 years ago. There's nothing but corporate chainstores like Carphone Warehouse and Starbucks everywhere now, and monstrosities like the new Bull Ring.

Much prefer old Brum.When you walk around now it seems unrecognisable to how it was,and i'm not on about the architecture.

Sad that such a big city has only buses and one lonely tram. It needs more tramway routes and even a metro.
@TheBeeseven5 жыл бұрын
@sanjay j Birmingham IS a big city in UK terms. The urban sprawl is over 250 square miles. Londons growth and success can be mainly attributed to it amazing public transport network. The point is this was paid for by UK taxpayers. If the government had lavished such transport projects on the Second City it would be a much different story. Years of neglect from central government have lead us to the point where Birmingham is the largest city in Europe that doesn't have a fully integrated tram or underground network. Thats shameful treatment of over 3 million taxpayers in the West Midlands. But you know what? We just carry on and keep going onward and upwards. We'll never be shown the same favouritsm London or our Northern friends get from the government or the BBC But we carry on. We don't shout for attention. The Lufwaffe destroyed many of our beautiful old buildings but Old Brum did what it always does. Dusted itself off and rebuilt itself. Now were doing it again. It's what we do.

Not much can be done about that im afraid. What the Luftwaffe didn't destroy the madness of brutalist architecture in the 60s & 70s finished the job.

Use the same locations when it rains or snows then all will be revealed about its conflicting architecture.You will feel helpless and lost in confusion just wanting to annihilate it`s presence.
