The thing i love about this game, is that they literally fight an ENTIRE night stra1ght (in game), because it begins at night/dark, and ends as the sun comes up over Mr. X's condo on the beach. Loved this game growing up.

It might make a comeback, there was a poll on a Japanese Sega site to fill in a few forms to say which franchise you would like to see revived. I voted Streets of Rage. A 2.5D title would be awesome.

By far the best video game soundtrack ever The music when you fight Barbon in the rainy back alley....totally awesome! My brothers and I always played 2 player with Max and Skate I gotta admit though, Max's uppercut move was straight gangster Max's double fisted spin move was pretty effective in a pinch too

Man, this game really is a showcase for the Mega Drive. I mean, look at how many characters there are on screen at the same time (I've noticed up to 6 enemies plus the 2 players). And they are big too. The SNES simply could not manage this--and I'm saying that as a SNES guy. It's extremely impressive stuff. Also, and this is another subtle detail I've recently noticed on old games like this, the Genesis HUD here is really colourful whereas the SNES with so many games like this often looks like it's using low colour mode for the HUD. It's the little things that make all the difference imo.

Sega was a cool console, in the brightness of the color schemes, absolutely. Its a shame many of the badass games on nintendo/SNES (at the time) werent made for Sega.

I love this game so so much, ever since my childhood forever !!!! I remember playing it at 4 years old 2001 with my mom and I remember we enjoyed it so much together I was always always Blaze. I was playing this ON the Sega genesis and the memories are just so strong, I own this game, I've beaten this in HARDEST MODE and the music is just so amazing. SEGA u have made my childhood full of ur memories, blaze I love a whole lot you are my favorite !!!!!!!!!

This was one of my favorite games. I must've beat it 100x on mania mode which is even harder than hardest mode. Even though the overall skill level of the players was not good this was fun to watch for the nostalgia. It feels like yesterday when I played it and I remember all the moves and how to do them.

That's mainly because Axel was just a much much better character in the game. Had the best overall moves, speed, etc. Max was strong, but extremely slow

If only the SNES version matched the arcade in terms of having all three players to choose from, two players in-game simultaneously, and as many enemies on-screen at once. I think this is one area where Streets of Rage 2 really blows Final Fight out of the water. And although SNES got slight more complex Final Fight games later, I still think the original had the better foundations overall, so it's sad the SNES never got the fully realised version it deserved.

The colours, sprites, aesthetics of the move sets, the character designs, backgrounds, the funky beats... SOR1 was epic, SOR2 was near to perfect. SOR3 was awful... they completely changed the mechanics, it looked like a lazy effort, the stage scenes sucked, the songs were awful, the combat wasn’t rubbish. I remember back in school days, kids were saying 3 looked older than 2.. Honestly... the only thing SOR2 missed was new levels, a lift stage including throw offs, pits to throw enemies in, factory stages that included ⚡️ 🔥 💧 like SOR1 stage 4 and 6... I guess that’s what SOR remake is there for. What I appreciate about Remake is that they stuck true to SOR2 design. Although they included 1 and 3, the sprites and gameplay matches 2. SOR Remake is better than 4, I genuinely believe the theme should’ve stayed as 2. Without question the baddest game in history.

how do you guys use the {forward forward attack} move so easily? Do you have some kind of custom button mapping thing set up on your pad emulator? if so what is it called? thanks

GatecrasherSlim No mate, but we were using gamepads so it helps a lot to press buttons faster. I can say if you keep pressing forward, when you press attack it will connect, that's why you see me (Axel) a lot of times just taking small steps - just me spamming forward so i can press attack when i want. Hope this helps.

Don't know if y'all been there or not - there's a tougher level than this - it's called "mania" ... it's been so long since i played it but I think you have to win this level first, don't shut off the console, and start a new game...my bro and I used to play the crap outta this game - like hours and hours for days. Awesome game.

axel: you should use more throws instead of just spamming rising upper (nothing wrong with that though, it's a great move) in group situations, and use the jumping down+attack move to move close to an enemy. max: should have warmed up before playing lol, also could benefit from more use of jumping down+attack move to move closer to enemies for grapple attacks, but aside from that good run
