The stun and restart the combo is what I used to do with Blaze on the Mega Drive back in Streets Of Rage 2 in the 90s :)

This video helped me big time, but there is one move I eventually get by accident, but I would love to know how to pull it proper: it’s a grapple, but Axel lifts the opponent more slowly over his head (like it’s really heavy) and slams him on the ground on the other side. Takes a big chunck of health and has invincibility.

I watched this video and immediately liked it. I've been playing the shit outta this game since the day it came out and I've been loving it. I've been mostly using SOR3 Axel because I love having run and roll. I used SOR4 Axel in the beginning before I unlocked everything but once I got the other Axels, I fucked with them and really never looked back. Anyways, despite the literally countless hours I've put into this game, I learned a few neat tricks from this vid! Thanks a bunch! I hit like and realized it was at 666 and I ruined it by making it 667. Now this video won't be fueled by satan. :'(

I might be discovering this video 2 weeks late, but I can't tell you how happy I am that someone finally put in the effort to show off what Axel can REALLY do if you understand his toolkit and how to make best use out of it. It was kind of killing me seeing so many complaints initially about how he's unplayable and the worst character in the roster when I generally had very little trouble beating the game for the first time as him, and that was without even knowing half of what this video showed off.

While I do think he's the worst of the 5 new characters, it's only because of his lack of mobility to keep combos chained from screen to screen. He's an absolute power house. I shred bosses with him faster than with any other character (well, not counting Floyd infinites). Love Axel. Love all the characters, really. This game is amazing and I hope they make some additional content for it.

Very well edited and informative video! Very thorough in explaining his moves and all their uses. I would suggest turning off the game's music if you're gonna put your own over it while keeping the sound fx in for your next video. It causes a little noise pollution. Thanks for the tips!

Strong attack is very effective on wrecking ball. Headbutt dont give you invulnarability like other grabs. Grand upper on hit slows down Axel greatly. Star move also known as shoryuken.

The shield guys in general kind of require knowing exactly when their shield is gonna break, and that changes on each difficulty. I usually just default to jump kicking backwards multiple times, and spamming defensive special when it's about to break or I'm gonna get hit. Works like a charm. Once you kill one, grab the baton and it'll help chunk the shield of any other buddies in the zone. Just be careful of taser cops. They have a nasty habit of killing my momentum by zapping away all my green health from spamming specials. >_>

Fun basic combo when you've got the space to do it: 4 hits of basic combo x2, grab enemy and do forward grab attacks. If you're near a wall, add another neutral jump kick. If not, just go back to basic combo and end it with Rise Upper + forward special.

How do you do the special move where he skids along the ground leading to an uppercut? I've tried everything and I can never get him to do it.

I noticed that sometimes when I'm behind grappling an enemy I do a longer more damaging slam attack. How do you do that? I cant seem to activate it when I hold on to the attack button longer. Or is it triggered before executing the attack?

LegendaryWolf Shirou not really. It’s like a charged attack. Example normally when I carry Big Ben slam attack 1 sec. then sometimes Big Ben slam attack can hold him in the air like 3 secs before slamming him to the ground for 2 x dmg.

Great tutorial!! Dragon wing seems to do A LOT of green damage when using it (5:23, for example). Using his other specials don't do as much green damage. A lot of times I rather take a hit than use dragon wing and potentially lose so much more health if I get hit after using it. I don't know why they designed it this way; Axel's mobility and recovery is already so poor..... you kinda need that move to deal with mobs, but a lot of times using it gets you killed. :{

Thank you man!Well done, nice and easy.I liked SOR 4,but imho all the characters are too damn slow in this game,only Cherry can run and Adam can perform some kind of fast step into the enemy,but other characters are strong but soooo damn slow.I used to perform great combos with Blaze in old SOR games even those mechanics were rather terrible and simple,but she was at least fast enough just to survive.My first attempt in this game was performed with Blaze as i loved her all the series,but i was really dissapointed about her speed and speed of other characters.

Once you get the hang of Blaze, she's probably the second most mobile character actually. I'd put her ahead of Adam in mobility, as his is limited to the ground and therefore it's tricky to use mid-fight. The single biggest thing for Blaze is her Blitz (the forward + forward + attack special where she flips) hits enemies on the ground, which has quite a bit of serial knockup except against heavy enemies like Big Ben, Kuubo and the Commissioner. You can combo the bounce into her down air attack into a kick into a couple of her aerial specials to just zip around. She's probably my favorite character, and I've spent quite a bit of time with this game now.
