Hey, don’t knock symphonic tracks! A lot of them can be great! It depends though. Even the Genesis had some orchestral style tracks. Take the shining force series, and landstalker.

Is this the original version of the song produced in the sound chips of the Mega Drive and the NEC PC-88 computer (YM2608)?

it's the MD version and the PC-88 original mixed together (Koshiro programmed all his MD music on the PC-88) The MD version has a much nicer sounding deep bass whereas the PC-88 hi-hat is much more distinct so I thought I'd mix them together and get the best of both versions

I listen to Japanese vgm streams (gyusyabu.ddo.jp:8080/index.html is a great one) I also spend far too much time on nicovideo. My primary source though is just looking up the back catalogue of artists I like and then hunting down the soundtracks :)
