I loved this band. Used to follow them everywhere. Dangerous, mad and pure genius.

Much like The Rumour, Streetwalkers had two lead players who could trade off: Charlie Whitney (left of screen) and Bob Tench (on the right). One heck of a band.

Yes, I got on to edge of the stage at the Roundhouse for Family's first gig back in the UK after a US tour. They were absolutely phenomenal live, and Roger sang with such raw passion. One of my favourite bands from that magnificent era of rock.

My brother put me on to this about 40 years ago. He recalled having seen The Family do this in the 70s and Roger Chapman was so pissed he broke three tambourines and nearly decapitated my brother with the mic stand. Fantastic song and a top live performance here.

Love Dave Dowle. Great drummer. Would love to know what happened to him. Last I heard of him was when he played on a live album by The Moody Marsden Band recorded in 1995 and released in 2001.

Used to go watch Family (now Streetwalkers) mostly for Chapman's antics. He would have a bottle of beer in each hand, he drank the one in his right hand and covered the audience with the one in his left hand. He went through copius tambos. If the stage lights bothered him he would use a tambo to shatter them. Often he would pull the mic up straight and smash a tambo over it. End of the night there would be 3 or 4 broken tambos at the base of the mic stand. The music was also really good.

Roger Chapman has a significant sound, realy unique in my opinion. I use to have the LP "Family in a dollshouse" (vinyl) but that was long ago... Still I do like this music. thanks for sending Steve, and yes, where have all the years gone? Got the feeling I wasnot watching for one minute, and the next minute they were gone...lol. but as I said once before, doesnot matter that we grow old(er) unless we do it gracefully and with all our good memories. No one can take those away from us

The finest era of rock music...when real musicians were actually given a chance to shine. Before the fucking sick, perverted, music industry took over and started serving up safe, streamlined popular bollocks like Boyzone, Westlife and all the other Louis fucking Walsh soundalikes. I was privileged to grow up with the Beatles, Stones, Who, Small Faces, Tull, Deep Purple, Zeppelin, AC/DC, Yes, ELP and real musicians who had dedicated their youth to learning to play an instrument!

First time ever that I've heard Chappo sing "boogie my night all away" instead of "bin gol dit dit dit dit dit dit doo"! Saw him earlier this month at The Brook, the voice is a little hoarser and lower in pitch but it's still a mighty, towering thing. I hope he keeps coming back for a few years yet.

At 01:08 just over Bobby Tench’s left shoulder, there’s a large poster of the carnival fat man used as the front cover for Nils Lofgren’s first solo album (1975). It’s the sort of image I’d expect the Asbury Park amusement venues would have used. Anyway, I’d like to know the source of that painted image.

Saw Chapman with Family a couple of times at The Sunderland Locarno around 1970. A great live band and Chapman was an equally great singer, although they had a certain amount of success they never really hit the big time you tend to think they should have.

I was watching this out of curiousity because the drummer Dave Dowle did some brilliant drumming on a couple of Whitesnake albums in the late 70s. This music doesn't really float my boat but the singer is undoubtedly amazing.

Seen these characters perform in Detroit, around 1977. Can't remember where--(Masonic Temple)? But...The Almighty WABX-FM interviewed Chapman, Whitney & Tench before the concert. Funny, because the ''Air Ace' DJ (Dennis Frawley), said to be careful leaving the studio, located in Downtown Detroit. Chapman said "Ya i hear Trouble grows on you over here--If it does...we'll cut it right off". Lots of on the air laughter after that comment. But in reality, they would have been taking a knife to a Gun Show! Anyway...Damn Fine Band!!!
