I've never thought of the center of mass expression as involving the moments of the mass elements. It should make total sense, intuitively; an object balances on its center of mass -> it has no tendency to rotate -> it has no net moment.

Since college times and even after graduation times i still do not know what is meant by first and second moment of inertia practically/ in real live!! What i know is moment of inertia as the definition in newton laws (tendency of a body to resist a sudden force pla.. Pla.. Pla).. Also i know moment mathmatically force x perpendicular distance...i know its a feature of section but i dont know its meaning from its name 😢😢😢😢..
@NAYAN-t3e
@NAYAN-t3e 2 жыл бұрын
• In general any moment of inertia is the ability of body or structure to resist against its change of state of motion or structural shape. For e.g. 1. Mass moment of inertia (kg*m^2) is measure of how body will resist the change in its state of rest or motion against the external applied torque for rotation. Its moment of inertia depends on three factors - (i) Position of axis of rotation & centre of mass, (ii) Orientation with axis of rotation & external force relative to body. (iii) Distribution of its own mass relative to axis of rotation. Mass moment of inertia defines how fast will body response to the applied external torque in rotation. 2. Area moment of Inertia or second moment of inertia (in m^4 or m^2 * m^2) is measure of resistance of cross section of structure against the changes in shape or orientation of c/sn caused by induced stresses like bending & shear as a result of external transverse loads. It is defined for axes passing through centeroidal point of cross section. Area moment of inertia matters for induced stresses due to external transverse loads on structural beams & axial loads on columns due to buckling.
