Outfitting a Land Rover Discovery Series II for Off-Road / Part Five (Extra)
If you're thinking of off-roading, you'll need to reinforce your steering components to take it to the trail.
Install Panhard and Steering Rods: Nowadays you can find a good used and affordable Discovery Series II for $3,500-5K. Add another $3K-5K and you can outfit your D2 for off-road in no time.
Watch Doug, our Land Rover Master Technician, in Part Five (Extra) of our video how-to series, as he removes and replaces the standard panhard rod and steering rod assemblies on our project D2.
Doug then upgrades with and installs Terrafirma all-steel, heavy-duty models, designed to withstand the stresses of off-roading.

Doug is a national treasure! The uncle I never had. BTW, that brakeman’s hammer is also sometimes called a railroad spike maul or spike hammer.

The back thing is the track bar, not the drag bar... Per the other vid you have about the track bar and drag link.

Are these pre greased already from Terrafirma? Or must be greased before installing? He didn’t mention! Great demo btw 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼

is it harder to get an accurate alignment when there is no fine adjuster, like on the factory rods. or do you release both tie rod lock nuts and turn the rod for a finer adjustment. i think i just answered my own question.

Shouldn't you wait till after its aligned to mount the steering damper since the rod itself has to be turned to adjust it???

good point ,the tie rod ends are turned. as the factory mount is welded in position, however you also have a second fine adjustment point on the factory rods. so they are not exactly the same. mmm.

Hi, it's good video, however hammering that steering joint that way wasn't very good idea. Its affecting badly the steering box. Try to apply the tool guys.

+Michal Labedz I wouldn't worry too much about a few hammer blows. The Pittman arm takes a lot more of a pounding every time you hit a pothole on a typical road or trail.
