I've been randomly watching these shows and was confused about how this had only 3 likes. I didn't realize I was among the first 30 to watch it fresh! Funnily enough I spent the whole hour walking in my apartment while listening, because I noticed how I didn't get basically any other steps in the week than store trips. And starting to walk 2000-8000 steps almost daily even inside the apartment had huge effects (some leg muscle gains as well as posture and feet fixing, better digestion and more sleepy at night).

Hi all. I highly recommend investing in a walking desk for pretty much anyone working a sedentary job. I work on the computer from home and last year I bought a cheap walking pad (a bit more than 300 dollars) and put up a shelf on the wall for mouse and keyboard and bought a wall mount for the screen. In total under 400 dollars and I can say without exaggerating that it has changed my life so much. It does take some time getting used to working while walking. Writing was actually surprisingly no problem, but mouse precision was a bit harder, I had to decrease the mouse acceleration especially when walking at faster paces. I have averaged almost 3 hours of walking while working per day on the treadmill, and also used it simply standing.

I walk my dog for about an hour on non lifting days at a generally brisk pace, sometimes venturing into micro-hikes on nearby trails. It's the only cardio I do (or non-lifting exercise for that matter) and I really like that as a routine. The benefits for body composition seem to transcend the basic thermodynamic equation of calories in vs. calories out. There's more to it than that. At least that's how it feels to me.
@joss45212 жыл бұрын
It doesn't transcend it, it can't. It just plays into it in ways you don't understand on a basic level. Cals in vs out isn't that simple there's a whole physiology beneath it changing the absolute numbers on each side of the equation.

You guys have been nailing my thoughts and self-experiments lately. I've recently been trying to track my step counts. I've been parking further out in the parking lot from work and spending my lunchbreak stuffing my face then walking laps around the building. It's been not too bad to break 10k steps per day. and it's nice to see my energy expenditure numbers slowly climbing up

If you prefer doing that just ride I bike mate, I am sure it is pretty similar without having looked into it specifically. I know that medium intensity jogging/running vs medium intensity cycling is pretty similar

It seems like there are differences in health promotion and overall health outcomes with respect to daily activity based on whether that activity comes from “leisure-type” activity versus obligatory activity (like from a job or housework). Do you think this is accurate and of consequence? If so, why do you think these differences exist? My initial hunch is that it either arises because you essentially enjoy the obligatory activity less ? Or perhaps because there’s much less focus on overload over time (not sure if overload is even required to obtain health promotion). Thoughts?

A person should never recreate on the water if they are incapable of swimming at least 20 yards. A life vest is a must, even for a sure swimmer. People who know me and know I can swim look at me like I'm crazy because I will not go for a boat ride without a vest on. True story... a number of years ago, four brothers I knew went duck hunting on the Mississippi River. They could all swim. The water was cold. There was an incident and three out of the four brothers drowned. The brother that survived could not talk about it, so I never really knew any details but I assume they drowned trying to save each other. I also witness a near drowning in an old quarry and the fellow who was drowning brother jumped in. The drowning brother was trying his best to push his savior brother under the water to get on top of his head. Two other people jumped in ( I did not) and eventually the three people managed to get the drowning person calmed down sufficiently that they could swim him to the rocky side of the quarry. What had happened is the drowning brother had jumped in with his pants and belt on and they had slipped down around his legs, he panicked and just started thrashing and going under....up, gasp, thrash around, down, up gasp, thrash around, down....He was for sure drowning.

Eric, you and SBS may want to consider retaining the services of an outside forensic accounting firm to audit your books considering you are running a budget Acer and the cohost is rocking a Mac. They may turn up exactly how Greg enjoys his lifestyle of boats and ho's. Just sayin'.

Immortality project: walk an additional (25,000 + 1,000 x age) steps/day to reach a statistically 0% mortality rate. The only problem is having enough time in the day to walk 130,000 steps at 102 years old, but I’m not worried. By then it’ll be 2100 and we’ll have invented more time. This is how science works right?
@tann_man2 жыл бұрын
Edit a 2nd problem: statistically 0 isn’t 0 so at some point your age will approach infinity and rolling the dice on statistically 0% infinite times will 100% result in death at some point.

Walking is still low on the overall health benefits. Soooooooooo many other far better things/exercises. Also if you think about it walking is what humans do most efficiently, aside from sitting. 1,000’s of years of evolution made it so. Find something to do that you’re inefficient at.

"Walking is still low on the overall health benefits" No. "Soooooooooo many other far better things/exercises." Weird generalizing hierarchy. "Also if you think about it walking is what humans do most efficiently, aside from sitting. 1,000’s of years of evolution made it so. Find something to do that you’re inefficient at." overwhelming angst about the absurdity of human existence is highly inefficient, I will just do that to succeed off the beaten paths. Thanks for the inspiration.
