I bought the J7+ after watching lots of videos including yours. My earlier 960 Roomba cleans well, but I never use the schedule function because I always have to make sure the floor is picked up due to cat toys and cords, etc. The J7 on the other hand rarely gets into trouble and does a respectable job vacuuming. A pleasant surprise with the J7 was how quiet it is compared to my 960. Being retired and home a lot of the time I enjoy not having my Roomba screaming as it goes by while I'm on the phone or listening to music. I found that I use the schedule function all the time ensuring a constantly cleaned home. So all in all, I'm very happy with the J7 and have relegated the older 960 to the second floor.

The big difference I like about the J7 is cord avoidance, various other robovacs have gotten stuck on or sucked up cords. Also since the J7 is a forward camera based robovac it can be updated on what to avoid in the future which means it will get stuck less than previous robovacs.

Apples and oranges. The J7 is really nothing more than an i7 or i3 with a front mounted camera and increased AI. The drivetrain, suction motor and other internals are identical to the i7 and i3. A more equivalent comparison would be between the i7 and j7. I imagine that a J9+ is in the works that will utilize the S9 architecture with the J series sensor suite and AI. Then a fair comparison can be made. However, as it stands, the S9 will always pick up better, but will be worse at object recognition and avoidance. Stress tests are helpful, but if you own a robot vacuum and run it regularly, there is no reason for your home to get anywhere near that messy. So I would say, in the real world, the artificial AI and object avoidance are much more desirable than raw power. I have two i3+, and no pets, so I'm more than satisfied with my cleaning setup, but in the future, for me, at least, object avoidance and auto emptying bins are the true pathway to autonomous cleaning. And if my vacuum has to take more than one pass, once in awhile for a "deep clean" then so be it.

We have the 980 currently and it’s about done battery wise. We’ve had it over 3 years and the battery just doesn’t hold a charge anymore. The wheels need replacing as well so I figured with those expenses maybe we look at a new one with the self emptying bin. Which one would you recommend as a new version of our 980??

Thanks to this video. I have decided to get the room a J7+ because it could really help with avoiding objects. Even though I don’t have pets. I sometimes might have stuff around on the floor. Plus the vacuum is more affordable 💀 💸 It’s also arriving today for me! I have had a old roomba for a very long time. I yet it is still working reallly well. But, does has some bon issue sometimes. But, I always stick with iRobot, because it’s insane how long a robot vacuum can last over the years?!1!1😳

Are you going to do a 2021 top 3 picks like vacuum wars does every year? It would be great to hear your opinion on that! Thanks for all the reviews. I have the J7+ but have been having problems with side brushes breaking off and it’s now making weird sounds. So…sending it back for the Roborock S7+ (I’m originally a Roborock type of guy but ventured out for the first time to iRobot).

Hey Adam, Another great video, I was surprised at how bad the J7+ did, actually. It did pass the poop test so that’s a big plus for pet owners. I noticed in the iRobot guarantee they will replace the robot if it does a poop strike but not clean the mess it makes if it does. I guess that’s something. On another note, I’m excited, yesterday I was able to get a Shark AI XL for review. My first self-empty. While not my first choice it’s looking like it might be a decent choice. It will be my 5th robot ever and my fourth review situation. My first was a very early Roomba I bought from Costco and returned because it sucked in a bad way. Keep up the good work and maybe you can stress the AI XL? Oh a note I’ll be adding to my review that I already know. WTF is Shark thinking by NOT including spare little brushes and a filter like most big kits, including them, include? I agree $650 is high. I am curious how noisy or quiet it is versus the JetBot. Have a great Sunday! Joe

I have the j 7 and I use it every other day and I change the settings to extra clean so it does a double take and I noticed it does take a little longer but if I start it in the morning by the time I get home at 5 PM the house is perfectly clean so keep that in mind it’ll only do one quick pass and Collett good so I suggest doing the extra clean setting so with that you got it appreciate that he didn’t run over the poop because yes the other one did a really good job with one quick pass keep in mind it ran over the poop and theoretically with a smeared all over the house

Did you have "Careful Drive" mode activated on the S9+? It's not activated by default, but lets the front-mounted structured light sensor work the way it was designed to since its inception, though it didn't ever work that way until now. I haven't tried it, personally. Unfortunately, now that we have 3.18.11, my S9+ is smashing into objects that it used to respect before. I would turn on "Careful Drive" mode, but it supposedly misses areas more, so I haven't tried that. Are you noticing your S9 being aggressive with your walls, especially where there are wooden moldings near the baseboards?

I have to object to this test. While I personally enjoy Fruity Pebbles, it's hard to say what a robot's individual preferences might be. In all seriousness, from what I understand the J7 has a learning phase. I'll find out soon enough. Got one on order. Still, I've loved these little vacuums since the beginning. My wife hates them and asserts that they "Suck at vacuuming." After the obligatory, "Yes, that's what they do," I explain that the difference between the floor being vacuumed at all or not at all is that robot. Great video, thanks for making it!

After watching hours and hours of your and other's robo-vacuum reviews. I am convinced (for countries where it is available) the Viomi S9 (500$) is the king right now. Suction power, mopping, 90min battery life at max power, AI for avoiding all kinds of obstacles, great mapping app and self empty bin.

@overkill1340
@overkill1340 2 жыл бұрын
I don't see anything, in the company's own literature, about obstacle avoidance with the S9. Viomis have been getting some pretty poor vacuuming reviews too, likely due to their fixed brush rolls, but that S9 looks like it might actually be flexibly suspended. I guess if you really want self-empy it's a good budget choice, but most vacuums, in that price range, have all those other boxed ticked with a better cleaning record to boot.

I'd never consider the S9 over the J7. I don't have pets but there are many more obstacles than dog poop and I can send my J7+ off into a room without going to inspect it first. It avoids small cables and everything. This test isn't so much real world. You can set J7+ to double down on a room. You can also send it out again. Small charging cables, etc, I can send my J7+ anywhere and not worry about it getting hung into something.
