Despite this being a routine surgery, surgery remains a potentially traumatic event. Maybe we should be comparing with other childhood surgeries to see if this is about tonsils or about the experience of surgery itself.

Thank you. Also compare pre- and post-puberty surgery. In fact, check those in their 20s as well.

I would like to see the study or papers that suggest that those having undergone a tonsillectomy are more likely to be hospitalised with a serious disease in the future. I’ve never heard of such a correlation or causation so it wouldn’t be good to read where these quotes of yours are from, and if they are indeed as you’ve stated. Thanks

I truly needed a tonsillectomy. I had to suffer for years with chronic, life-altering infections to "prove" it, and graduated from college years after I was supposed to.

I had mine out in my 20’s after constant infections. They had to go. Sometimes, they are done, and must be removed. It’s not only about greedy doctors. I’ve never missed them and never get sore throats - ever - anymore. I’m not anxious either. The obvious question is that kid baseline anxiety levels may be an indicator of the type of immune system they have. There may be a link there. Did they look at the children’s baseline anxiety levels before having tonsils removed? Without knowing if there was a change you can’t conclude anything.

I think a diagnostic distinction between "sore throat" and "tonsillitis" would be helpful. Also, looking to see if there is a correlation between childhood surgery of any kind and later anxiety disorders. I remember my T&A as being a traumatic event, despite the post-op ice cream I was given, and I did experience an abnormal degree of anxiety as an adult.

Another quoted fact from you is that those that have their tonsils removed have a lower education attainment- that doesn’t ring true to me, so I would love to read the data and studies on this , could you please provide the link/s? As someone that had their tonsils removed in their 20s and went on to receive my masters degree at age 40 , to suggest that their is a correlation between tonsils removal and low education is hard to fathom. Thanks, look forward to the link/s

I know you believe you understand what you think he said but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard was not what he said. Check the transcript at ( 4:37 ). The study notes the education level of the *parents*, not "those that (sic) have their tonsils removed". (Congratulations on your masters degree, by the way.)

Wow. Now I'm glad I didn't have my tonsils removed as a kid despite frequent sore throats. I'm stressed enough as it is 😂

I wonder if the parents of these children were smokers?.
@paulhopkins8148Ай бұрын
Since ear disorders in children has been linked to second-hand smoke I would think so.

@paulhopkins8148 Oh that must be it, then. A lot of former alcoholics don't drink. I don't drink. Was I a problem drinker? 😂

Bingo.

I had this procedure done in the mid 80’s. This all sounds like a bunch of BS to me. I was born with a sever case of the croup when I was born. By the time I was 8 years old or so, I had suffered several cases of tonsillitis. They removed my tonsils and adenoids. To this day, I have never had a case of sore throat or a congested sinus. It sounds to me like the author of this study is just trying to add another situation to the victim mentality this country suffers.
