I use (2) 3 foot sections of 2x6 then sandwich the fence between the 2x6s and use a couple deck screws to hold it together. I then hook my come-a-long to the 2x6s. Much stronger than directly to the fence.

I do the same thing using 4 ft. sections. I have my corner post and support post already set and concreted in. I sandwich the fencing between the 2x6s and also have eye bolts on either end of the 2x6s with a chain running between the two eye bolts. Hook the come-a-long to the middle of the chain and the other end to my tractor. Take up the slack with the tractor and finish pulling tight with the come-a-long.

those clips just need a screwdriver run through the loop between the wire and the clip then spin over one turn and simple pliers on the other side

I really don't know where to start . I have been involved with farming my whole life . Built and repaired miles of fence and have never seen anything like this . #1 - please start with good corner braces . #2- have the appropriate tools #3- use at least 4 wire clips per post . If you don't , your fence will eventually sag . #4- please don't have your horses in the pasture when you are fencing . Can you imagine the wreck , if your horses spooked and ran through your partially built fence .

Curious if you have any advice... trying to put up a quick tpost fence for horses but also to keep dogs in... I know we need solid corner braces. Do you think 8ft T-posts would be necessary for horse fencing? Trying to put wire all the way to the ground to also keep dogs in so thinking we may need to go with 60in wire. Appreciate any advice!

@@ashleysullivan7965 Hi Ashley, thanks for your questions. I think 8 ft. posts would work . On the corners ,if you can't use wood post ,you could use some steel post braces that I have seen on the internet . Hopefully you can Google them . Good luck with your fencing and of course your horses and dogs .

@@ashleysullivan7965 I suggest a wooden H post brace with a 8’x8” corner post. You really don’t want to cheap out on bracing, especially if you have livestock. Dare brace products has some great tutorial videos on how to do it.

I would fasten one end of the fence to a post and at the other end I would nail the fence to a 2x4 at every square and then wrap a rope around the fence/2x4 and pull it with a tractor or truck, it pulls the whole fence equally and it stays even and holds it tight.. no pulling or stretching the fence at every post, just fasten it.. job done

I have put up field fence on wood posts and will be waving t-posts for about 350 feet. I like your method. What are you using for corners and how are you bracing the corners?

Our corners on this section are temporary, we plan to add more. So I didn’t have a good example. Normally I will use the tractor auger and drive wood posts in and create cross bracing between the posts (like an H on each side of the corner) that will hold it tight and give you a good base to stretch from. If your land is flat you can weave a post at one end and stretch both top and bottom at once. I stretch the bottom and then stretch up to roll it snug with the hills and easily maneuver in the woods.

Good corners are the key to a lasting fence... we drill 2 holes 8 feet apart and 3 feet deep set 2”3/8 steel pipe in concrete in the holes then weld in the brace. You attach the wire to the steel post on the back post.

Not drill stem but the actual pipe that oil flows through from the wells... you can buy used drill stem but that would be major over kill

Question. If I run metal siding along the bottom 2 feet, will blocking the view help keep animals from digging in? Thinking about putting that up after I install my fence.

What works for my two big dog extreme diggers is getting a six ft tall fence and leaving six inches folded over toward the inside at the bottom. They can't figure out how to dig under the fence enough to get out. Just wire it right to the bottom.

No, we are separating them from the horses. The fence is a portion of a larger pasture layout that we will complete over the long term. To be able to coordinate field separation and rotation.

With your coyote problem try snares. You can buy then pre made or all the materials for 160+ of them for $120. Professional critter trappers put their snare right in holes in the fence. You can put foot holds around the area as well. Coyotes are a pain but that might be my bread and butter if this thing goes to hell.

I have to put my posts 4-6 feet apart bc my ground is so sandy. Some places I have them 2-3 feet apart. In some spots I’ve went to put a 6 foot T post in the ground and already have it 2 foot down with one or 2 hits bc it’s so soft.

Never tie your tape as you would a rope, it is a measuring device to ensure your post line up evenly. I will use a piece of strong par-cord to tie the end of the tape to a post never tie a tape like a common rope. Your distance was off about 8 inches which may not seem like much but it adds up on a long course if repeated over and over. At the end of four setups you will have a error of about 32 inches close to 3 feet of error. I am not bashing you just showing you a better way.

Your "stretch" is comically loose. This is nowhere close to tight. With good wire and a proper stretch 24 foot post spacing would be better. If it aint tight it ain't right. And this aint tight.

It takes good high tensile wire, such as tornado, good metal braces. much, much more stretch, like 2 i use a 3 ton hoist to strain feild fence. Or pull with a medium frame tractor till it spins out it takes serious power to strain good fence right. When its tight half the crimp should be stretched out. Once its tied off you can climb it between post. Also if you have snow load post need to be closer together too, like. 20 feet

Low tensile fence shouldn’t go 24 ft between posts, for low tensile I wouldn’t go more the 12 with a wood post every 5th post

Any fence that works is a good fence, having said that, you did not watch redbrands videos......it could be done much better, what you have is actually dangerous because a animal can become trapped in loose fence. That fence should almost sing like a guitar string when stretched out. Go watch redbrands fence videos....all of them.....no doubt what you have done works.....but it could be much better.

Is it the two t posts you mentioned? So one end of the fence on the starting post, then clip the fence to a second post, and pull on the other end?
