18:20 I do this all the time, especially with scale animations. I like to do radial scales from a single anchor point most often. I find it easiest to accomplish by using a slightly different expression. After establishing the same offset type, I would use: thisComp.layer(thisLayer.index-1).timeRemap.valueAtTime(time-offset); You can then copy and paste to all other relevant layers. I also find that offsetting the number by a fraction of a number gives me the most pleasing results as well (ie 3.5 instead of 4 frames).

You mean when you try to edit the path points of your text and drag them vertically, they move horizontally? I have never seen that behavior in After Effects before.
@wolfychu9398Ай бұрын
@@JakeInMotionlike when you do the path keyframes and them duplicate them the one where your changing the font to a different font to make it look like it’s going up it changes and gets smaller horizontaly instead of verticality

@@JakeInMotionso it’s not expanding up to the font on the top it’s instead changing to the font but horizontally

So that's just the nature of the difference between the font sizes. Edit the paths of the pasted keyframes to be the size you want them to be for whichever animation you're trying to create.

In the second example of changing font weights, how to you keep the width constant of the words as they scale up and down vertically. I got them changing weights and scaled them correctly at state A and then state B, but in the middle the width of the words is too wide. So then I tried to put in keyframes in between to adjust scale but it just looks bouncy/jerky and not smoothly keeping the width perfect.
@JakeInMotion Жыл бұрын
I just selected all of the paths for that word, double clicked and scaled them all down so that the left and right edges were aligned properly. You can use comp guides to help you with placement.

Thanks for this tutorial, Jake. I always get great value from the way you approach your projects. I have a question that is not related to this topic but to the way you edit your videos: When you scale your video (on the bottom right corner to take more space when making a clarification like at 3:00 and back to its position at 3:14) do you do that manually or have you found a way to automate that? And also, do you do those things in After Effects through a Dynamic Link from Premiere or how do you edit your videos? I'm curious because the ease is very smooth and I'm not even sure you can get those out of Premiere, but I figure you edit your videos in Premiere because editing in AE is such a pain. It's not built for that. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
@JakeInMotion2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I do all of the recording through OBS and the camera source is baked right on top of the screen recordings. The transitions from the different camera views are handled through OBS, tied to keyboard shortcuts. But yes, I do all of the remaining editing in premiere.

I understand we're converting the text to shape but is there any way to change the word after all the animation work is done? What if I have multiple words I want to apply this effect to?
@JakeInMotion Жыл бұрын
No, it can't be changed unless you start over. It's a very labor intensive process. You should check out a new extension called Variety, which lets you work with variable width fonts in AE. It's a much faster process.

Using your Faux 3D makes it impossible to export with transparency. The export just takes the background colour of the faux 3d in the first letter (I was making a composition with different coloured faux 3D for each letter). Do you know why that would happen? An interesting thing is Quicktime renders the background as black which makes me think it sees it as some sort of transparency but any other software renders it colored. Need to mention that I am on a Mac so I am limited to the Mac export settings. Later edit: I found a way around it ... if anyone needs it let me know. Would still be interested in hearing if others have encountered this issue and what it is they've done about it.

I ask about precomps because your way of explaining really helped me (I do make them all the time but I feel like I am doing it wrong). I have ADHD and self diagnosed dyslexia….
@michaelgorczyca2 жыл бұрын
@@9orION83 Precomps are useful when you want to group elements together so they can all be affected at once. Think of a Precomp as a fancy folder - you put stuff inside and now instead of having multiple layers, you now have one single "master" layer. Making presets is pretty easy, first you add all of the effects to a layer, adjust to your liking, and then select all of them and go to the Menu Bar > Animation > Save Animation Preset. Then when you want to use the preset again, go to Effects & Presets, search for the preset and load it up.
