Strictly's Rose Ayling Ellis rehearsing without hearing music

The new series of Strictly Come Dancing is starting and for the first time, one of the stars in the show is profoundly deaf.
Eastenders actor Rose Ayling-Ellis is paired with professional dancer Giovanni Pernice.
The duo took time out from rehearsing their first dance to talk about how they'll be learning their moves.

Wow, your surname rings a huge bell with me and my family, particularly the Tointons who were orphaned in South Africa and adopted by a wonderful family called the Boobyers from Birkenhead !!

Interesting. I don't know of any connections to Birkenhead area. My connections are in the Devon and Cornwall areas. Although with such an odd surname , I imagine that centuries ago there could be a link.

@@sue-boo What a pity. My mothers family the Tointons in S. Africa were in shipping and at that time had business connections with the Boobyers in Birkenhead who were into Warehousing. They had a large Georgian house in the East Midlands where I was born. There must have been a strong relationship for the Boobyers to adopt four boys and my mother at the time, only 4 years old. Their parents both died from malaria ! I'm now 77 but sadly know so little of the history of their move to the UK. I guess it was a long shot but hey, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

@@martinforrester8249 it is a shame. As I said, my family's ties are Devon and Cornwall. An uncle traced the family back a few hundred years and apparently they were involved in Church and Cathedral building. Also tin mining. My dad and his family were involved with railways. Signalmen and office workers. And I still love the smell of the old steam trains! When I was working a man asked me once if I was related to the Boobyers from Wales. He was posh and pronounced it Boo buyer.! It was interesting to read your post. No mention of Wales so maybe that's another link from generations ago. I went back to Boobyer when I divorced. I've heard all the jokes and I'm proud of my name!

They did an absolutely amazing job last series, It is so amazing that she can dance so well without hearing anything. This just goes to show that you can do anything if you put your mind to it. I hope one day she will be able to hear, as technology and doctors are improving so much in the recent couple of years.
