Hey Mike! The restaurant with the big dumpling head is my dad’s restaurant. Totally did not intend to match dumpling heads, but everyone must love some dumpling. Thanks for coming to my city. Honestly, some of those places are new to me too because I've been gone for 10 years. One of those restaurants you went to (across from Penang) used to be a barber shop I got my haircut at as a kid. I think the Philly food scene overall is underestimated because of NYC, and maybe even DC to the south but we have our share of nice places and a ton of feel good food (Italian hoagies, roast pork sandwiches, cheesesteaks, just about any kind of ethnic food). Go to South Philly for Vietnamese stuff, get bun bo hue. Go to Lil Nick's (also in S. Philly) deli for chicken cutlet sandwiches.

Back in the 70's we would always go to a Chinese restaurant at 9th and Race, it was called Ho Si Gui (sp?) , but it was soooooo good, the food was cooked like they cooked for their own family.

I live in Philly i only been to China town once. The restaurant gave you some of what other people were ordering to try. Great experience!

Hey man, I've been to China town a few times and I highly recommend Terakawa Ramen! Gotta get soup dumplings from somewhere else first of course

Ting Wong is my favorite! The sweet tofu house is another great spot. I was short 50 cents one time and he was really kind and let me go. Made sure to bring the right amount to pay him back next time and he didn’t even remember! Very nice owner.

Despite getting takeout from Penang just about every time I am in Philly, I haven't really explored the rest of the food in Chinatown. I already planned on visiting Mango Mango Dessert but I think I need to visit A La Mousse and that second brunch place with the panda and unicorn murals out front. I am all for trying every type of cheesecake, and tofu and burnt both sound lovely.
