In early 2019, a student at Falmouth University asked if she could make a short film about my story with chronic pain and my hopes of hiking and completing the 2,200 mile Appalachian Trail southbound later that year. This video shows some of my story, my fears, and some of the training I put in place to get myself as ready as possible to attempt the first long trail thru hike of my life. Will I be ready to set off?
Happy watching and I look forward to hearing your thoughts in the comments.

As someone that has suffered from chronic pain for the past 25 years, I find you inspirational. I appreciate that you don’t gloss over the fact that the pain is always there. Can’t wait to see you take on the CD this year!

I loved watching this, thank you for sharing your story. I enjoyed following your travels on the Appalachian trail on Instagram. I actually live very close to the trail and have always found it fascinating but always thought I’m too old and out of shape for it. But your story is very inspiring and makes me think maybe it’s not out of reach

Thanks so much Stef, I am really glad you enjoyed coming along on the trail with me! Many more to come I hope. You are absolutely NOT too old or out of shape. It's just walking, and you will be able to do a little more every day. I am rooting for you! If I can do it from the state I was in, then you can too. xx

It seems that the physical and mental training for the Appalachian Trail did work. It is possible that when you started the trail you had little confidence that you would be able to finish it. Sometimes we are our best friend and our worst enemy

True words Fran! We are indeed both those things. I couldn't believe that I managed to keep going and kept thinking that it might end anytime, but actually using my body in the way I did on the trail gave me the best health and least pain I've had in many years. Wonderful!
