Striga is a character in the Castlevania animated series. She is one of the four Queens of Styria and a member of the Council of Sisters, serving as the leader of the army of vampires.
Striga is a female vampire with androgynous features. She has long black unkempt hair, dark gray lips, and light green eyes. Compared to the other members of Carmilla's Council, Striga is not only more stocky and muscular, but is also considerably taller than her peers. She wears a dark blue cloak which hides her black suit of armor, a red sash, a dress in a darker shade of white, and a leather belt. It should be noted that the left pauldron of her armor appears to be fashioned after a raven or crow's head.
Striga is the high general of Styria and its greatest warrior. She tends to be blunt, preferring honest "honorable" tactics. Lenore notes that while most of the sisters play with their prey, Striga would kill it and move on. Striga is not afraid to share her honest advice with Carmilla.

I love the detail of the visor having a yellow color because it has gold in it, which is used to reflect the sun's radiation. The same trick is also used in astronaut helments.

@@matijasostojic4288 Hair is made of dead keratin, so it doesn't react to the sun. We see the same thing with the bones. The bones don't burn in the sun because the cells aren't alive anymore. So fully dead vampire tissue isn't affected by the sun.

You know what i have noticed rewatching this scene? None of them ran. They were terrified, trembling, unorganised but none fled even in the mist of battle they knew they were figthing for their future and that's why striga realised the plan was doomed.

Yep. And these are farmers. That fact showed two things: 1. If farmers could do this much damage, what could an organized army do? 2. Even if they conquered an area, the civilian population could not be quelled, and would never remain as docile "cattle". That latter part made her realize that they could never undertake the conquest that Carmilla planned. They needed generals and allies, but Carmilla didn't care about diplomacy, just conquest. She doesn't have the forces that Dracula had - and keep in mind, what Dracula planned was a massacre, which doesn't need guards to keep any area in control. Corpses would simply be raised as more night creatures, giving him a perpetually growing army.

@@korsekileven Dracula's plan would have failed. He may have been able to take Transilvània and even other parts of Europe, but they would be stopped much like any other domineering force at some point.

Blood sucking parasites couldn't fight the human spirit because at times humans at their most desperate aren't fighting to win. They're simply fighting so that YOU don't win. They will strap themselves explosives and kill whoever they can. When fighting against our very existence humans will dig onto the pits of hell for trenches. We have been killing each other for as long as we've written down history. No blood suckers who can't even reproduce naturally among themselves will ever bring us down. But if they do, you can bet will scorched the planet in nuclear hellfire because its our world and we will burn to ash before anyone else has it.

I think you made a great point here. Just because Carmilla says it does not mean it is true. Striga may not actually agree with the sentiment fully. Just because Humans cannot perceive actions or even make actions as quickly as Vampires do, that does not automatically mean that they cannot have thoughts as deeply as Vampires. So yet again, we have a pompous ass who blatantly under-estimates their enemies.

Can we all just appreciate how Striga started growling like a cornered animal towards the end of the fight? As Trevor said, Vampires are basically highly-evolved Predators, and Striga's movements and vocalizations became more and more beast-like, even as in control as she was, throughout the fight.

Same with Carmilla in her final fight against Isaac. The only high-ranking vampire that doesn't do that is Dracula, possibly because he stopped hunting long ago and his time spent with Lisa tempered that animalistic side of him.

Striga cared about honor and glory. She fights as a general on battlefields and wants to gain glory by winning a battles. Ratko cares about effectivity and carmage. He is a geruilla warrior that prefers killing the enemy without a fight.

Honestly, I think Ratko merely had the misfortune to be partnered with a superior manipulator. Death pretended to be a sycophantic braggart terrifyingly convincingly, and nudged his ego _perfectly_ to get him killed once he wanted him out of the way. Ratko was a monster, but he didn't come across as a FOOL to me. He was just outclassed to a _mythic_ degree.

The difference is that Ratko killed people in a cowardly way, such as poisoning a well or killing women and children more often than not, justifying it by saying it was "war." Meanwhile, Strigga is more honorable.

Cars have hundreds of horsepower. Striga hit's like a car, Carmilla can cut through any engine, Dracula will disassemble the engine and rebuild it himself before you realize.

Realistically speaking Carmilla's plan was doomed since the beggining, there is no way vampires could keep a war of attriction against humans, even farmers, every 12 hours a giant ball of death comes in the sky, literally all you need to do is to rush into a vampire camp and throw arrows, fire and rocks into their tends and barracks, and the giant ball will do the rest, no need for knights, swords, horsemen or fancy weaponery

Crazy thing is, those humans made the vampire have a crisis of faith. They kept laying down their lives despite having laughable chances of ever winning and that made her scared for the future they were aiming for.

because these were PEASENTS fighting for their freedom. and this was just the first area they tried to control. imagine what a larger stronger smarter more organized and well-equipped force could do? Even if they cant win, these villagers sliced the vampire numbers down at least by half by simply cutting open or setting fire to tents. a bigger, more well-prepared force could potentially wipe all but striga, they'd need to equip every vamp with day armor and have them wear it constantly in order to not get gaggle-fucked.

@@boomerpro87 Exactly. Even if they managed to contain the humans it would be a logistical nightmare, they didn't have the manpower or the resources to watch over them 24/7 so it would be constant rebellion.

@@boomerpro87 Hell, even if they somehow managed to hold their own or even defeat a proper military, this attack represents more than that. It shows what humans will do when they're cornered, even if they're just a random no name peasant, or as Carmilla said, "idiot livestock.". They'll fight and thrash and rage even if it kills them. Imagine this on the scale of a fully conquered nation, not just a region of one? They'd be dealing with attacks like this over their entire territory, every morning, every day that hold that territory. Carmilla's plan was never going to work. It was too ambitious, and pushed her enemies too far. Just like Dracula, ironically.

@@ThatSwiggityGuy Dracula's plan actually had a better chance of succeeding. Not only does he have more forces than Carmilla - since he united several vampire lords while her forces are her own, along with any forces she managed to turn against him - his plan wasn't conquest, it was massacre. Any regions he captured only needed minimal security to ensure the supply and marching lines are kept secure, and any corpses would be raised as night creatures, ensuring no necromancers could use them against him. He also had two Forgemasters under his command, giving him more night creatures which as far as I know do not have the daylight weakness that vampires have. Also, Isaac seems more proficient in his craft than Hector. On top of that, he has access to a teleporting castle that can unleash swarms of night creatures wherever he wants. Of course, the big downside to his plan was that he was starving the vampires, which turned some of his forces against him (quite certain that Carmilla planned to usurp him from the start and was using that angle to get herself some more support).

I mean aside from the difficulty of finding such a location for a whole legion, or providing enough rocks and logs to build housing for the same for a temporary encampment, it kind of goes to show the point that Striga realises throughout this fight - they assume the humans won't attack because they're hopelessly outmatched, and so the Styrians are caught off-guard. As someone else said here, Striga saying "idiot fucking livestock" isn't an insult, she's cursing the way Carmilla taught her to think that humans are weak, controllable livestock.

They didn’t have enough time or resources to set up a proper camp only a temporary one like these and they can’t just use a random cave since there might not be one near enough to the humans for miles and remember they have a lot of troops and resources the time it would take to build a big enough shelter would be impossible and impractical

@empiyrr2133 I get that, except obviously they're massively vulnerable during the day. I'm struggling to think of a comparison, but they're a conquering force in hostile territory. During half the day they're immobile and defenseless, and the only thing protecting them from instant death is a thin layer of fabric. They should've planned better. Wagons certainly exist, and Dracula had an entire teleporting castle. I understand Dracula is kind of a special case, but they have the capabilities and resources to come up with something better than a cheap tent

This is hilarious because we see the classic "dark lord" rules but then Castlevania shows us that ruling is VERY different from conquest because of all the resistance you will face! Either you will exterminate all humans or so many of them you will have a phyrric victory or you will eventually be overwhelmed.

I feel like this scene gets overlooked despite how much it reveals, most people just look at the action and think it’s cool but… 1. The day armor itself is very interesting. The yellow visor likely uses a similar technique to what astronaut helmets use, being coated in gold to block out the sun’s radiation. This means there has to be someone out there who needed to spend a lot of time to figure this out. This is probably why “day armor” doesn’t see widespread use amongst vampires because of how difficult it would possibly be to find out and get the necessary materials. Plus, it’s clear the armor is very heavy and impractical as Striga, the very well built VAMPIRE (which have superhuman strength to begin with), get tired when wearing it. It’s probably not made for prolonged use. 2. This is likely the moment they realized the plan was doomed. Notice how despite the fear on their faces and their friends dying left and right, not a single person ran. They all charged in ready to stop the vampires or die trying. The humans were not going to sit back and become cattle so easily, they were going to put up a fight. Plus, they had a decent plan and did a good number on the vampires, and they were just farmers and common citizens. If they were better organized and more careful with their planning they could have had a good chance to take them out. Imagine what an organized army could do to the vamps. 3. Honestly if that arrow didn’t alert Striga or if she didn’t have her day armor, it likely would have been over for them all. I can’t help but wonder what went on in her head during this. Edit: It’s been a while since I actually watched this in the show so chances are some of this could have been explained or I could be completely wrong, lol. Idk, I don’t exactly remember what happens after. This is just a bit of what I analyze form the scene Edit 2: so yeah after rewatching the season again… this was the whole point to this comment is useless lol.😅

Striga is completely terrifying on the battlefield but what really locks in the fear is how she is able to read the situation, realize what is going to happen, and coldly cut her loses without agonizing over the decision like most human commanders in her place would have done. I don't know how good of a tactician she is but that action honestly suggests she would be in the top percentage of war commanders. And she eats people. Terrifying on so many levels.

Such a better upload of this scene. Us, the viewer should get context as to why she's so over the top with her brutality. I think it shows us that while they were just villagers, she was willing to die here fighting to save Morana's life. It's 50/50 brutal and wholesome. Thanks for uploading this. Day Armor is such a badass name. The only way it can be better is by naming it the Daybreaker or something. One, because it allows her to break people during the day. Two, because it allows her to break through the daylight that would've hindered her. And three, for the sweet ironic mockery that a daybreak is supposed to bring light, and yet this daybreak is carrying a creature of the night.

I like daybreak but I think day armor just fits Striga more, the show has very strongly characterized her as being very blunt and simple, she isn't stupid but she prefers to see things at face-value and is probably the most restrained of her sisters (aside from actual combat)

This season just seemed to have so much more focus on a cohesive plot as well as making the viewer feel connected to the characters compared to the 2nd.

Day armor is clearly crazy expensive, and is still extremely risky since even one hit and you are fucked. Plus it only really helps against humans, who have not been much of a threat to vampires until recently

@@Self-replicating_whatnot It is an opportunity cost. The armor is (seemingly) very expensive based on craftsmanship and materials. Most other vamps would rather spend such money on underlings or defenses for their lairs, or they just don't value money like humans. Could you imagine Godbrand earning and holding on to enough money to find and pay a skilled enough craftsman to make a set of armor? And Godbrand is a pretty typical high rank vampire.

Jesus Christ, no wonder she’s called “Striga”. She fights like a fucking rapid animal. Terrifying af. 2:34😰 (fun fact, in The Witcher 1, a Striga is a formidable monster with long claws that is known for its hyper aggressive nature, attacking anything that moves and ripping it apart with its bare hands, claws and/or teeth. They’re also known to possess incredible amounts of physical strength, speed, resilience and agility as well, if my memory serves me correctly. Similar to the display shown here.)
