Shading bringing down an entire string of solar panels like is shown here @ 3:00 isn't an issue today that it was just 10 to 20 years ago on older solar panels because todays new solar panels have bypass diodes installed inside them that separates the areas of each solar panel and helps protect them from shading losses and redirects the current inside the solar panel to limit the negative effects of any shaded cells. This improves the overall performance of the solar panel and helps avoid any affects to other solar panels on that string even if you have some shade loss like from a nearby tree or a bird. I will agree that optimizers are a good thing even on todays new solar panels if you have a known daily shading issue and you can also only install optimizers on those solar panels that get shade on a daily basis and not install optimizers on solar panels that get no shading at all if you wish so you don't have to buy them for all your solar panels.

Less loss transmitting AC vs. DC - no way Joe. That is also not why AC power vs. DC power won for the electric grid and power transmission. It is that AC power can more easily be converted (stepped up and stepped down) - with simple transformers. To do this at the time with DC (before solid state electronics in the early 1900's) would have required motors and generators - and placed more frequently than AC sub-stations (since high voltage motors and generators were difficult and expensive). And regarding efficiency, today for long runs in the power distribution system, high voltage DC is actually used as there as less losses than AC. AC power needs to deal with power factor and current draw not in sync with the voltage (any non-resistive load), and this causes electrical lines to need to be sized larger than the power actually consumed by the load. DC doesn't have that issue, so DC is used in long distance backbones, before being converted to AC for local consumption. DC also doesn't require synchronization - another benefit for long distance interconnections between grids.

@@WattsMiner Another advantage of DC transmission is the lack of losses due to the skin effect in AC current. The effective area of transmission decreases with the frequency due to the skin effect. DC requires less area than AC for the same current.

Question: If micro inverters are attached to each solar panel, then what happens if one panel produce lower voltage than the others? Is that going to cause current to flow in the direction of the solar panel with low voltage thereby reducing the output voltage? What happens if the output of the microinverters attached to the solar panel are out of phase? It looks like they will end up cancelling each other.

@@IshaqIbrahim3 Microinverters step-up the DC voltage of panel (typically 30-70V DC), and convert it to 240V AC. Only works one-way, and not influenced by other panels or microinverters. And, in order to work with the AC line, this is also all synchronized to the 60 Hz. Not possible to be out of phase.

Nice to see some of my phrasiology being adopted (even if accidental). All the "experts" blabbering about the techno jargon of inverters. ALL of them talking about "prices" and "costs" and arguing about shading and the minutia of production, loss, and "easy installs". Efficiency. String, Micro, DC Optimized (They can't even acknowledge that Micro and DC Optimized are different). Not ONE SINGLE WORD about what is REALLY going on with Solar Power for Homeowners! This is why I call it "stupid solar." because it talks about all the wrong things, all the wrong ways, making it more and more unnecessarily confusing to Homeowners, and mostly causing them to do nothing while forming unfortunate opinions, perceptions, fears and concerns. All of this electrical component talk is great for installers, maintenance people - it's even kind of interesting - I love science. But What you need as a Homeowner is a system with enough ability enough to conduct ALL the electricity you will likely use annually over the next 10 or 15 years and then continue conducting as much of that as possible for the next 25 to 40 years. You need room to grow (If you have room on your roof - or only if absolutely necessary, on a ground mounted Solar Power System). You must plan for obvious changes coming like EV's, electric appliances, pools, equipment, retirement changes, etc. (or do that later by adding on if you can fit more equipment later). You need the BEST equipment, not the "cheapest" or the "easiest to install." You need OEM technology with legacy enhanced architecture that continues to develop on it's own product, learn from it's data and has implemented technology everywhere in virtually every use case, hopefully as long as their warranty and guaranty! You need the best warranties and guaranties, service, and service level agreements, monitoring services, and monitoring tech, all from the deepest pockets. You need resources behind it all, and you need to put the LEAST risk on you, and "invest" ZERO dollars into a Solar Power System because THAT is not REALLY an "investment" at all - except in the most lay use of that term. If you are talking to ANY "solar rep," "solar sales org," "solar company," etc that IS NOT offering you what I've explained here? Then THAT is all you need to know to move away from them. Especially if they try to tell you that the "loan amount" is how much a Solar Power System "costs." Or the "cash price." If you are talking to someone that is talking to you about "getting prices" or "making deals" or getting "quotes" or finding out how much "solar" "costs"? Then do yourself a favor, and reach out to me and I will show you what is REALLY going on with Solar Power. I still haven't told you what's REALLY going on with Solar Power but at least you now know how to tell if the people you are talking to or listening to know themselves! But now that you've watched this video and reading all the arguing, I'm sure you are ready to go- to get up off the couch and take action - because the "inverter" story is so clearly solved for you! SMH - .alas, we know this is not true. But I could make you jump off that couch in 2 minutes, without mentioning any of this! And you will thank me for doing so (as you should!)

Agree - very frustrating to again see misinformation here and the string inverter myth. Shading of one panel does not degrade the entire string. MPPT tracking in modern solar inverters deal with this in conjunction with the bypass diodes in the solar panels - causing conduction and just loss of the power in that part of the shaded panel (no different than micro-inverters or power optimizers). MLPE only are useful in complex partial sharing scenarios, and this can be dealt with in cases where string inverters have multiple MPPT inputs. Of course the other positive of MLPE is panel level monitoring, but just more components to fail on a hot roof.

@@deyumei7965 That's a non-issue - degradation is tiny per year, and across all panels. A defective panel could limit the whole string, but degradation is uniform.

@@billjohnson3344 lol really? They aren't even that uniform when they rolled off the production line,let alone the different orientation or position that each panel may have. That's why there's always a percentage on the wattage. Panel degrade quite significantly for the first year so it is an issue.

You are really out of touch with the times with your understanding of the modern technology and cost benefit analysis for your customers.There is more than enough data these days proving that with modern solar panels and MPPT devices that they will perform at par or out perform module level devices, people do not need to invest in microinverters or optimizers if they dont need them, but they are convinced they do with this rehtoric! Please stop telling people they need this crap because its "better". I get it, you sell more stuff and tell folks there going to have a more "efficient system" while incresing the price per watt by .50+ but its just not necessary unless you have A LOT of shade or 6 different roof planes to work with. I have been a solar contractor for 15 years and 85% of our service related issues is enphase communications failures (only warrated for 5 years) and Solaredge failures (they will not be in business much longer). The number one thing that is NOT a problem... a central inverter that lasts 2 times the return on investment of the system. You will realize this enevitability in time and so will your customer base.

Still could only put in less than 20% not much difference Measure at the meter or the output of the inverter volts and the amps multiply the two and give you actual watts going into the grid which you have not done yet do the test
