Yet this thing is incapable for Out of Range pins and remember in the official rules of Bowling: If a pins slids off spot, stays off spot. The strings are always pulling the pins up and set them back down on their original spots no matter what. And oh the Tangled Pins, its a whole new level of inconvenience because when that happens, a Free Fall Pinsetter has a already finished its cycle seconds or minutes ago. The worst of all for Strings is sometimes they can have faulty pin counts, a slight tug of the string even if the pin is still standing can tell the system its a knocked down pin. I wouldn't allow Leagues to bowl on this. If centers wanted the cheapest and safest pinsetter while retaining free fall, go invest a Brunswick GS-NXT Pinsetter. It was released since last year 2022, it had good reviews and there are already centers taking out the old mechanical Brunswick A2's for these newer GS-NXT's.

Safest maybe, but definitely not cheaper. If you really wanted a good pinsetter, I would suggest the Edge Free Fall. A much faster running machine and will guide you on maintenance. Only good thing about GSX style machines is that they can spot certain pins, but they spot pins so slow@@PinoyBowlerGS92

@@PinoyBowlerGS92 It's also in the rules, if a pin falls over do to pin setting, it is replaced to original spot, not "new" location. So if the head pin knocks out the 10 pin, but remains directly between the 6-9-10 location where a pin setter can knock it down, fails to pick it up causing a failed sweep, or sweeps away the pin it gets placed back in the 1 spot.

If your center decides to switch, then they will be in the strings category, but should they stay in free-fall, they will remain in the free-fall category. Your games on strings will be recorded separately from your free-fall games.

It's worth mentioning, the string pins certified by the usbc had longer strings than these machines iirc. Longer strings significantly reduce some of the problems strings have.

Yeah it seems to be a bit of a trade off for sure. Less string wonky-ness and more freefall like action but more tangles and vice-versa. I'm not a string pin advocate (though I'm from Canada we've been bowling on string Five Pin for 40 years or more so we're not as jaded haha) but it just bugs me when people say "I can't believe USBC sanctioned this!" When they didn't. That machine isn't even USBC approved for the String Pin category of competition.

Honestly, they should’ve replaced the string pinsetters to human pinsetters. The one where a human picks up, clears, or sets the pins up. That would still be free fall pins, and saves costs on machines like AMF-82, Brunswick A-2 or GSX. Maybe even cheaper than a string pinsetter machine. Keep the string pinsetter to Canadian 5-Pin bowling.

This is going to be the hottest of hot takes, but I don't mind string pins being used in competitions. Anything that is going to lower scores, make things (slightly) cheaper, and (maybe) provide more options as to where you can bowl should be allowed. String pins lower scores and that's EXACTLY what we need right now because we need to get back to when it was impressive to be a 200+ average bowler. WITHOUT limiting the options of the bowler, which is what the BEYOND stupid rules of disallowing balance holes and not being able to apply surface/polish during play have done. String pins MIGHT make things slightly cheaper too. COULD bring lineage prices down, we will see. And no one understands this but string pins are also going to provide more options for bowlers. Gonna result in more bowling centers opening at large. Now! Don't get it twisted! This doesn't mean I want EVERY center to have string pins. I don't, and I'd be especially against them if it was proven that they damaged bowling balls and stuff. Cuz it would be one more thing (along with disallowing balance holes) that would have us need to buy more bowling balls that we probably don't need. I think bowling centers should be able to use whatever kinds of pins they want. Complaining about string pins is like complaining about sport shots or that two hander who threw a thane ball over your line. If your ego is being bruised because of lower scores cuz you couldn't adjust to make your scores better or because you're not athletic enough to produce more than 175 RPMs on a ball, maybe you just want the big bad thing that lowered your scores to be banned cuz it hurt your ego and not because you want bowling to improve. Not a good look. The REAL concern that should be on every bowler's mind is Bowlero taking over centers left and right and USBC creating a near monopoly on league bowling. THESE are what we should be trying to save the sport from. NOT string pins in and of themselves.

So you believe that making the sport easier by having an artifical "boost" is the way to go. With that reasoning, NBA should increase the rim by 5 inches to have more points NFL should make the field 50 yards instead of 100 MLB should allow corked bats and NHL should remove the goalie.

Baby splits happen more offten and because of the strings, you can just wrap the string around the pin to take it down. If you are trying to make it exactly like freefall, it needs to mimic it to a T.

If played the exact same way, same oil pattern, same throws, etc. But the only difference is strings/freefall, They would both get dramaticly different scores. Which in turn, mess up the difference between a good bowler, and strings getting strikes.

I can see using strings for a carnival atmosphere for parties of kids and open bowlers that just want to drink, scream and have fun. But that should be their limit, they should NEVER be approved by the PBA or USBC for normal competition or league use.

The fact that a clear miss like a wrap 10 can be made into a make BECAUSE of the strings should be enough evidence to invalidate string pins for competition. Its just ridiculous that the USBC/PBA would even consider it.

I asked the manager at my local bowlero, and he said they won't be switching to string pins, but bowlero Jupiter (the next closet bowlero to me) switched to string pins. Which is stupid, I guess no more Jupiter PBA events.

stringpins make bowlers feel like The Game is threatened. I suspect the next move is to charge more for traditional pins.. Bowlero is the real problem....the prices they charge I'd NEVER pay. We bowl 3 different alleys and go when the "deals" are on, costing us around $2 - $2.50 a game. We bowl 8-10 games per session, 2-3 times per week. So for the two of us we're spending at least $200/mo. Can you imagine what that'd cost if it weren't so cheap?

The local Bowlero in the Seattle suburbs is 8+ dollars a game. I found a place within a few miles that has a 15 dollars for 2 hours of bowling rate. I get in about 12 games.

Even those are not good enough, the one near here has $7 all you can bowl from 9 P.M. to midnight. Quartermanias are also good as long as the cover charge is under $10. Problem here is league fees keep bumping up.

I've signed up on the bowlero mvp awards site. I usually get a free 2hr bowling coupon once a month. So if you haven't signed up to the mvp awards at you current location. I would do so. Even though I get 2 free games a week to bowl. I perfer to use the 2hr hr coupon to get my games in every month.

Hi man, love the content! Just one thing to say here on the string pins (I'm not defending them, but I had to say this). I work at a bowling alley in Groningen in the Netherlands and we recently had string pins installed. This is my experience with them: Yes, the pin reaction is a lot smaller/worse. We barely see any messengers or anything like that at all. string pins seem to leave a lot more splits. BUT, our strings seem to be very different than the ones in the video. we still have 10-pins staying up all the time, unlike the reaction on the 10-pin I've seen multiple times in this video. I've never seen that reaction on any of our lanes. I don't know whether it has to do with the type of strings (they do look different), or the tightness or length of the strings. I really enjoy the pinfall machines a lot more (I scored way higher on those), but the cost of operation on string machines is estimated to be about half. I agree string pins shouldn't be used in official competitions though. In short, I think our string pins perform better than the ones in this video. Whether it has to do with the type of string, or the settings of the machines, I have no idea

Yes I totally agree what you said if a sentence dying they want to put string Pins in just for a bit of fun fine you know that's like that's ok but for competition purposes I don't see the point in it like you said you know how you wrap the 10 pin a few times myself bowling since I was 2-years-old I've bold 6300 I worked hard to get where I was in bowling and like you said like it just kind of beats a purpose and I just don't really like the Carrie compared to the real bowling with a real pins but if it's going to be like that I guess we all have to get used to it unfortunately

How about we address why the sport is dying so bad that centers are loosing money. All of you KZbinrs are doing more for the sport than the actual governing body for the sport. The PBA and USBC should be ashamed of themselves. And if it continues maybe the pros should band together and start an alternative or parallel league in houses that don’t use them. You’re playing on a shit string system. In order to do usbc they have to be certain systems with certain setups and rules. You won’t carry hardly any of that on usbc certified string system. There is a reason they are doing all the testing they are doing. I prefer not to have them but if the numbers prove close there are lots of benefits to them too if they get real close. Longevity and center keeping them in spec will be the big question.

@@220avg well. I mean. I’ve been to centers with shit lanes and racks that are so bad you almost have the head in covering the 3 pin etc. so there is always going to be variance. But yeah. Not sure how it all would be enforced. But you could have the same issues now. But definitely agree the strings seem like they could get out of spec pretty easy. That’s why I think longevity could be the real issue as well. Hopefully we won’t have to find out 😂
