Great video ! The NFAA field round has targets out to 80 yds. I barebow string-walk but I also have 3 anchors that are high, mid and low with many crawls. The Yost tab is perfect for organizing crawls. I keep my crawls recorded on my cell phone. Example 20yds is H19, 50yds is H4, 65yds is M2 and 80yds is L2.

21" + ILF risers with long limbs and elevated rests are simply awesome for String Walking! I use a Springy rest on mine which is very forgiving. Problem is for many hunting situations it takes too long plus I miss using my shorter bows. I tried String Walking and missed several opportunities at deer so then I switched to Fixed Crawl which is great for tree stands and ground blinds but still too slow for still-hunting because I had to look down at my string. So now I am learning to shoot instinctive for those 2-3 second shots at close range while stalking deer. For longer distances I will use String Walking or gap. That's a great combination because the crawl is not so big at 25 yds and beyond allowing you to use one piece recurves without the bow complaining too much. The most accurate form of aiming is pin sights or Olympic style. They were popular in their day but hated by most today for some reason. Keep up the awesome content!

For my hunting bows, my point on with my fingers touching the bottom of the arrow is at 40 yards. I then tie in sting nocks with a light color string at 30,20,10 yards. This makes it feel like I’m shooting a compound. I also mark my white threads on my Safari Tuff tab with a black marker so it does the same thing.

I've thought about doing that. Similar to a nock for a Fixed Crawl but for every 10 yards. My non-ILF bows complain too much however crawling at 10-15 yds. A loud bow is not a good hunting bow. @@terrillallen6331

Great information as usual! Love the you promote variety of styles for a variety of archers. I’m just a hunter ,with a little 3D for fun, but love that others can enjoy a wide range of archery 🏹. You’re doing a great service to widen the sport and always have great content! God Bless you and your family 🙏😇 Merry Christmas 🎄🎁

Very good advices! I learnt about the method almost the same time I started archery and put my shots to another level very quickly, I liked the simplicity you gave to the method! Happy shooting!

Greg I'm genuinely glad to come back to your channel and find that you're still doing your thing! I haven't been shooting archery in about 6 years but going to be shooting again very soon so I needed some good train up info. Thanks brother, keep shootin'!

Hi greg amazing video, I personally started as an instinctive shooter and then gap shooting, never was pleased with my shooting, usually ended up in the last places at every 3D shoot and had horrible TP, Since going to string crawl for 3D and fixed crawl for hunting im ranked on the top shooters in my state, while a teammate shoots just as good as me with instinctive, it just shows the best aiming is the one that works best for you

Greg - Thank you for another very informative and instructive video. Question - have you tried the crawl with a canted bow? Thanks Ross

So crawling would be intended to be used with a string that has a set nock on it. If I have a longbow with no shelf or nock, do you have recommendations? This is only the second video of yours I’ve seen. Just found you but I like what you have to say.

Thanks for the video! Do you do anything differently when setting up your knock point?

No, everything I do tuning wise is based off how the arrow flies.

Hi Greg - love your informative videos especially this one as I was thinking about trying string walking but has it got limitations? ie once you reach your point say 30 yards how do you use your crawl say for 40 yards?
@TradArchery101

Th e trick is setting up your bow for the max you will shoot at. For me it is 30 yards. Anything past that, I shoot GAP. Now, if I knew the shoot had further distances, I would set it up for that.

IBO traditional class states, no string walking. Not sure about ASA as I never checked the rules.
@TradArchery101

ASA has done away with the trad class due to poor turnout. Since so many trad archers do not shoot 3D with either the IBO or ASA, the. String walking is a very viable option

@@TradArchery101 Judging by the images of your Yost tab in your videos, your tab looks to be a Yost Pro (metal plate with ruler markings) and like all other Yost 3FU tabs it only comes in large or small sizes ... ? If it helps, the large tab height is 2.7" high while the small is 2.355" - www.yostarcheryproducts.com/_files/ugd/2976f3_a9f04eaef4714c31ad4af6f74c8a83f9.pdf

Hi Greg, I need to pick your Brain!! Years of instinctive shooting I always thought I was point on at 25 yards with 5/8 this on some bows and 3/8 th on other bows nock point height. Then I started split vision and anchoring higher to look down to the tip of my arrow with 3 fingers under middle finger anchored side of mouth and index finger on my cheek bone. I realize now at 25 yards ,,I now aim tip of my arrow on the deers back and the arrow drops on the deer target right in the heart.. Why Instinctively I thought 25 yards was point on and now the arrow drops sooo much putting my arrow point on the top of the deer target to hit the pocket of the deer is beyond me?)

That is a result of many things, bow weight,draw length and design, anchor point, arrow set up and what hook you are using. When you shot instinctive did you use the same anchor point?
@bradlauber9097
@bradlauber9097 8 ай бұрын
@@TradArchery101 Same style of anchor point now I'm just raising my anchor a little higher on my cheek bone and hooking my index finger like I'm pushing a button on my cheek. 18 yards I'm point on. 20 yards I aim 2 inches higher. 25 yards seems to drop 12 inches 10 grains per pound arrow weight

That sounds like a combination of arrow and anchor. Have you played with grip pressure?
@bradlauber9097
@bradlauber9097 8 ай бұрын
Yes I have medium to high grip on my bows and I palm the grip right down to the life line. I have two black hunter bows also most of my other bows have the same profile grip. If I'm only 5 to 10 yards from the target I aim 4 inches low. What is your gap measurement at different yards? I played around with nock height but I get best results with my bows depending on grip shelf limb weight and spine + weight of the arrow 3/8 and 5/8 th. My bare shaft arrows are all tuned and flying great!!
