This is a brief musical composition that paints a serene moonlit night with a gentle breeze, capturing the refined joy of a peaceful evening. Originating in the Sui Dynasty and gaining popularity during the Ming Dynasty, it is characterized by its delicate and tranquil style. The score first appeared in the renowned work of the Yushan School, “Songxian Pavilion Zither Score”. Described in “The Beginning of Zither Learning” as having profound meaning despite its brevity, its structured rise and fall, along with its balanced intensity, evoke imagery of friends gathering under the vast sky and bright moon, playing the zither, singing, enjoying wine and composing poetry.
