Perfect timing on this video. My last two times out were terrible staying in deeper water (24' to 38'). No bait fish but plenty of Stripers showing on Livescope but not taking the bait. Exactly what you described. Thanks for sharing the secret. I'll be hitting the shallow water next time out.

I’m in NY and use your techniques in the Hudson, the Sound and out in Montauk, with great success, so thank you. Just bought another boat and I’m looking to see what model Simrads and electronics you use? I have garmins on my other boat and I’m always looking to get some opinions. Thanks in advance, Kris

Have you had any success using blue gill or goldfish for bait for stripers To use on planner boards
@joegrande4848 Жыл бұрын
The easiest to adjust is probably try just sticking to 2 retrieve you fish for fun. If it's your livelihood it's different. 1/2 fast reel turn fast pause 1 second then 1 moderate reel turn. Alternate back an forth. Also 1/2 reel turn fast 1 second pause do this 3 to 4 times.then let lure sink 3 to 5 seconds. Then repeat after 3 to 4 1/2 reel turns and 1 seconds pause. You'll cover water quicker helping u find fish faster

Also found lure retrieve 8 seconds moderate speed a few occasional pops. Pause 3 seconds shallow water. If in 8 plus feet 5 to 7 seconds. 10 plus feet 10 seconds. Then work lure again say 6 seconds pop lure once or twice pause 3 seconds. I say 6 seconds because you'd have shorter distance bringing lure back to you an 3 second fall because as you bring lure closer back to you shallower water as well.

Greetings Mike! Yours is one of the very few sites I subscribe to. Why? You are the very best teacher, ever. Most fishing videos are 30 minutes of watching folks catch fish. I quickly flip to another channel so I don't die from boredom. When I watch yours...I go all in. I have learned more from you than any other source. Keep up the good work! @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS11 ай бұрын
They are actually speed clips with no swivel. You can add a barrel swivel to them if you’d like, but I use just the clip. Here’s the link. Use the 125lb size 👍👍amzn.to/3v34kGQ

Will those top water lures be effective during the spring run?
@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS Жыл бұрын
Sure. As long as you see Baitfish on the surface the poppers are worth a try. If you see baitfish jumping to avoid being eaten than DEFINITELY use the poppers 👍👍

Hi Mike, what do you mean by “structure” on shallow points? Like a shallow flat near a point? Also are the same techniques good for wipers? Thank you in advance for the clarification. Love your videos!
@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS Жыл бұрын
Thanks Nancy! I basically mean any type of anomaly that juts up off the bottom. Humps, ledges, drop offs, rocks, and points themselves. Places fish can get out of current or wait to ambush bait. Wipers like it all as well, although they do tend like open water more than Stripers. 👍👍
@offgridwhitetails8768 Жыл бұрын
Mike Are you primarily using SI in the shallower water to locate balls of bait with scattered fish ? Also next two days we’re going to be in the high 70’s which is not the norm for Texoma this time of year. Would you focus on this pattern with such a temp increase ?
@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS Жыл бұрын
Yes and Yes. Side imaging is my strongest tool for sure. If I had a big temperature increase I would stay in backs of creeks on shallow points. From noon till dark especially. Fish the bank thats hit by sunlight first.👍👍

I’m working on getting the website info for the description. They are made by Clear Choice. My buddy from Accurate sent me some and they really came in handy. Especially THIS fall with the clear water we had. Colored baits just wouldn’t work.

Hi Mike 👋 When I take friends out fishing, they usually want to go in deep water. I ask them if they want to catch fish? Of course they do! Two minutes after launching my boat, we're in less than 10 feet of water and hooking up! They call me the frugal fisherman, lol!
