Took a trip out to do some Striper Fishing this day on the Elizabeth River, and it was a great day on the water! Had a chance to put the Garmin Panoptix Livescope to the test searching out some Stripers. This technology has invented a new fishing term called "Sight Jigging". It is unreal that you can literally sight jig for fish at any depth and watch them react to, and hopefully take your lure. I am completely sold on this sonar system at this point.

Slow burn_172 I know exactly where too. My friend and I were boating there last year and this guy comes out getting all territorial at first. When we saw him standing there staring at us we just give a friendly hello which he apparently didn't expect and was friendly back. Then he told us we were trespassing but he isn't going to do anything. Seriously? We were in our boat on a branch off the Elizabeth river . smh

I bought a LiveScope with 93sv echomap plus after watching this video 4 years ago and was very happy with it. I then like you updated the software for perspective mode. My question is, when you updated the software for perspective mode did you notice a decline in the quality of the forward view. Also sunbeams and ghost trees maybe? I did and wish I would have never updated mine. I was pleased with it but now it's almost impossible to find my jig when fishing over brush. Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

There have been many issues I have seen with each update. Yet in most cases the update is worth the problems vs what you gain. I have not experienced quite what you are mentioning, but I also deal with seeing the system work in my yak vs my boat. They have completely different chartplotters and that can throw my judgement off to be honest. Looking back I do seem to think that the forward view in my yak setup was cleaner, but I would never give that up in trade for perspective mode. Also, I have warrantied 2 transducers so far and that solved a lot of quality issues that I started seeing. The first replacement was free "still under factpory warranty" and the second was a dealer cost trade out.

As the fish rises for your lure raise your bait up at the same rate or slightly slower away from the fish to trigger a bite. When the fish catches up to the bait let it sit motionless and watch the rod tip. We have a livescope too and we fish with it the same way as I described from our boat and on the ice and this technique works. If this doesn’t work then change colors or lure all together. Great video!

Rock might be eating worms and the like this time of year , I know in upper bay rock fish will bite on Razor clams until soft crabs come season in then they wont touch them, In MD you can only own to mean low tide from land , see your local DNR , also Flounder fishing should interesting with that new depth finder.

What an awesome tool for fish location! I got a Deeper Pro + castable sonar for Christmas, and, while it's not nearly as advanced as your unit, it gives a remarkable amount of information about what's down there. I spent a couple of hours probing an apartment lake on Dec. 27 (It had been in the 30s the night before.), and was surprised to find out just how much barren water there was. All the baitfish and bigger fish were stacked up in deep water (8-11' in this lake) in a few specific locations. After finding a massive concentration in casting range in a narrow cove, I fished them for a couple of hours, but no bites--maybe they were just chillin'... At least I knew I was fishing where there were fish, and, in winter at least, that is no easy proposition without technological aids. Love your videos; keep 'em coming--tight lines and wet nets!

Great video. Where were those stripper? In the deepest part of the channel suspended? Was there a drop off or any structure? And could you have found them based on anything else?

Deeper water it seemed, water temps were low 40's so they were down deep. Water is probably a little warmer down there. They all seemed to be in the deepest parts of the area I was fishing

Nice! Played with my livescope the other day ice fishing. One thing I did notice is that there is a noticable delay of info. If I jig up, the sonar will lag by a little bit. Is this normal? Perhaps I need to download the updates which I will do soon? Thanks, still awesome tech!!!

No real delay on mine honestly. It seems to be in real time. I would def update both the head unit and the livescope box

I think the Livescope is an awesome way to start learning what the fish want/don't want. KNOWING there are fish down there and being able to see how they react to each bait you try is immensely helpful.

Looks like you are over by the Gilmerton Bridge in Chesapeake. Rights of owners on tidal waters only extend to mean low-water mark so those signs are BS. Somebody should snap some pics and send them to Vdgif

Great video, there is some rule that if the body of water has only 1 outlet and you own all the land that you can post it and keep people out. You run into this on Hells Creek in va. Beach, I never know what to do. Even Rudy inlet and lake Wesley are actually private lakes and yes folks pay taxes on the land under the water!, but they cannot post it on account of it not being enclosed and owning all the land. The folks that build docks must buy the land under the water to do so! $$$

You should try burning and/or burning and killing a bait during the retrieve. I've found sometimes they want something moving and a fleeing batfish is the ticket.

Just the type of fishing. When I am vertical jigging I use only baitcasters, but when I am casting in saltwater I prefer spinning reels

Been waiting for a salt water live scope video. Very cool! I hit the elizabeth river Saturday and didn't mark much of anything except bait. Hit rudee today and caught 3 striper once I found a school, trout were everywhere like normal. For the trout or tough bite...downsize, just like in bass fishing. If you know they are there, less is more sometimes. Were you using the side imaging to locate them and using live scope to dial them in?

Side imaging really didn't show anything, which amazes me. I was switching back and forth comparing and the livescope showed hundreds of fish swimming around and the side scan showed almost nothing...

Southern Reels Fishing very interesting. You splurged on the garmin version of mega too right? I found a ton of bait in the river Saturday but the good Mark's were few and far between. I had a 93sv before the helix 10(hdsi...non mega) and the SI on the bird is noticeably better. This live scope is such a game changer though.

Nice. Its similar to the down scan feature on The lowrance. The best down scan ive seen so far is on the Raymarine Dragonfly. Are you still running the Helix on your other yaks?

Similar but all other systems only give you a static image. This provides a full live image without you having to move... no comparison
