Just as a barrier in the ocean can prevent sharks from entering the bay, the barriers established by the Lord create for us a safe harbor from evil and destructive influences.

I find that each General Conference talk has not only a great story, but also a lesson we can all take with us and apply to our lives to feel closer to the spirit and our Heavenly Father thanks to the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

What a great message: God's commandments are NOT restrictive :) They are loving guidance and protection from influences that trap, devour, and even destroy peoples lives... look around people, how many do you see who are suffering because of others poor choices and bad behavior??? Isn't it time to stop doing things our way and start letting God help us tap our fullest potential?

I have not always followed the commandments of our Heavenly Father. Out of ignorance or just plain laziness. But when I do. It fills me with joy and peace. I am starting to understand why these principles free us in every sense of the word.

Lois Madrie We believe that Sunday is the sabbath because when God created the earth, He rested on the 7th day, right? We believe the 7th day to be Sunday.

I think barriers are just fine as long as they make sense and we can trust the person setting up the barrier. Sometimes however, barriers are somewhat arbitrary and used as a way to control people. LDS leaders too often, seem to fit the control model more than the make sense model. Telling gay people to remain celibate for example is quite harmful to them and telling them to marry someone of the opposite sex even moreso. This particular barrier keeps many people locked up and denies them happiness rather than protecting them. So many of the "barriers" given by so called prophets cause more harm than good so much of the time.

i kind of understand how you feel. i have grown up Mormon, and some of the rules seem a bit dramatic and ridiculous to me as well
@tiffanypersaud3518

The more you understand about why, to more it makes sense. Yes it may seem harmful for someone who is same-sex attracted.be celibate, but I personally know of some, and they choose that life of their own accord. One is celibate this far and the other is married with a child. They chose.

" some blessings come soon, some come late, and some don't come till heaven. But for those who embrace the gospel of Jesus Christ they come it will be all right in the end trust God and believe in good things to come. " Elder Jeffrey R. Holland If you want to see the Mormon message the I got this from it is called " good things to come " Don't give up because God will never give up on you.

Jesus died, was buried and rose again on the third day. Jesus will keep you from being be devoured, NOT the ten commandments. When we believe the gospel written in 1 Cor 15, we are changed because Jesus did it all. His blood was shed for all our sins. It is a free gift. All you have to do is believe it. It makes me sad that people don't know or understand the gospel It is written in the epistles of Paul.

I believe what you said about Jesus helping us, but the commandments are there to help us on our journey, too. God made them FOR us. He wants to help us. So yeah, technically the Lord helped us, but He created the 10 commandments for us. The Lord loves everyone, and He doesn't want us to go astray.
