Annabel's comments were helpful. I had a stroke 10 months ago and have recovered about 90% all on my own with no help from a support network or any of my doctors. I learned how to speak and regain balance from You tube videos which I guess doctors don't know about. My biggest remaining issues are emotional (anxiety and anger and frustration), handwriting capability, and computational ability (simple arithmetic). Before the stroke I was an Honors Math graduate from the University of Illinois and a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries-i.e.- an accomplished and credentialed math genius and now I can't balance my checkbook I totally related to her comment about running a half marathon. I walked 8 miles a day 3 days a week about 4 weeks after the stroke and everyone told me not to do it- "It is too hard for you. Practice walking across the living room instead." . So her comments about "Screw You stroke" were right on with what I felt. I got no support emotionally or therapeutically in my recovery except from a high school friend of 46 years ago who lives 2000 miles away, but had a father who suffered a stroke 60 years ago, and she "got it". I haven't found anyone else who does. It feels good that there is someone (Annabel) who went through something similar to me and responded as I did. I just wish I could find some support, like it seems Annabelle did. Like her, I don't "look different" so everyone tells me to just get over it and be grateful I can walk and talk and stop feeling anxious and stop making errors in paying bills. You are an angel sent from Heaven, Annabel

I had a stroke during my sleep in 2018. I was 49 years old. It has been a whirlwind of a life since then. The few people that are still around say they understand but they don't. I am majorly depressed, walk like a drunk alot of the time, talking is ok except when I can't get my words out correctly or at all, my vision is horrendous since then, started having seizures afterwards, right side of my face is still partially numb as well as right side of my throat. I miss my old life and the old me. I don't know the new me and since I have had the stroke I am so fatigued all the time and do everything slow that it makes me feel like I don't have quality of life therefore I pray and cry for Jesus to come but he has not yet. I am a miserable person and very resentful. I am trying hard to get out of this rut because I miss having a life in general because right now I don't have one. Happy to see people talking about this
