[Wikipedia] The University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB; Filipino: Unibersidad ng Pilipinas Los Baños), also referred to as UP Los Baños or colloquially as Elbi (pronounced ['ɛlbi]), is a public research university primarily located in the towns of Los Baños and Bay in the province of Laguna, some 65 kilometers southeast of Manila. It traces its roots to the UP College of Agriculture (UPCA), which was founded in 1909 by the American colonial government to promote agricultural education and research in the Philippines. American botanist Edwin Copeland served as its first dean. UPLB was formally established in 1972 following the union of UPCA with four other Los Baños and Diliman-based University of the Philippines (UP) units.
The university has played an influential role in Asian agriculture and biotechnology due to its pioneering efforts in plant breeding and bioengineering, particularly in the development of high-yielding and pest-resistant crops. In recognition of its work, it was awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Award for International Understanding in 1977. Six of its research units are classified as Centers of Excellence in Research via Presidential decree,[5] and it hosts a number of local and international research centers, including the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), ASEAN Center for Biodiversity, World Agroforestry Centre, and the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA).
UPLB offers more than 100 degree programs in various disciplines through its nine colleges and two schools, 29 of which are undergraduate degree programs. As of 2021, nine academic programs were recognized by the Commission on Higher Education as Centers of Excellence while one program was recognized as Center of Development.[6]
UPLB alumni have been recognized in a wide range of fields. They include 16 scientists awarded the title National Scientist of the Philippines,[2] members of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change,[7] Palanca Award winners,[8][9] as well as political and business leaders.

I grew up in los banos before moving to the US. My childhood was spent here and the sounds, smells, and atmosphere are so similar to what I remember especially in the neighborhoods. I am going to the Philippines again this summer after nearly 10 years and it will be really interesting experience seeing it through adult eyes now.

late comment but I do miss that place especially my lil sister lives in brgy mayondon. naaalala ko noon nung bata pa ako and nung nandyan ako sa pinas, lagi akong excited na dumalaw sa bahay nila dyan para sunduin siya papunta sa gala na pupuntahan namin noon with my dad!! taga cabuyao laguna pa kasi kami nanggagaling noon since dun naman talaga kami nakatira kaya din sobrang naeenjoy ko yung long trip tas lalo na pag mabundok yung daan na tatahakin namin. kaya sobrang na-a-appreciate ko yung mga canyon roads like sa may Los Banos national highway or di kaya sa may Santa Rosa - Tagaytay road (yung paahon na papuntang tagaytay from nuvali). anyways, a simple video like this is already enough to make my day and at the same time napapaiyak na lang din ako in a way dahil din ang tagal ko nang di umuuwi ng pinas, bale 4 years na akong wala dyan so yeah. i really do miss my home country din pati din yung dad and yung lil sister ko. hopefully makapagbakasyon ako dyan soon either by this december 2023 or sa march 2024. thank u for posting this!!

Los Banos Philippines is where my father was born but had to leave when he was six years old during the war. I rently went back to look for family members. Do anyone know a local historian or an elder that is 85 years or older? My grandpa was held in at the Los Banos University when it was an encampment.

Sad to see outgrown grass in gutters, dried leaves scattered everywhere, no fresh coat of paint at the auditorium, dilapidated buildings. This used to be a nice clean place. I can only imagine the traffic going in there with just two lanes. The trains planned from Pampanga to Calamba should have extended here. It was scrapped and too bad, because LB could have been improved.

Hello, sakay po kayo dyan sa sta cruz ng jeep or bus papuntang Calamba, and then baba kayo ng Junction, sabihin nyo ibaba kayo sa kanto papuntang UPLB and then sakay kayo paloob via jeep, yung may karatula na UPLB Loob or pwede na din yung UPLB gate, :D
