Stromboli Volcano | FPV drone flight through erupting lava

Located off the coast of Sicily, Stromboli is one of the most active volcanos on earth and has been erupting almost continuously for the past 2000 years. I had the chance to visit the island in September 2022 and capture these spectacular volcanic eruptions.
It is no longer permitted to hike to the top of the volcano so I flew the drones from the viewpoints at 400m and 300m. I used the 6" BOB57 and Chimera 7 Pro FPV drones from Iflight with a GoPro Hero 10 bones. No drones were harmed making this video aside from some propeller damage after being hit by a few chunks of flying lava rock. I was fortunate that one of the vents was constantly spraying lava in addition to having larger explosions every 20 or so minutes.

@@chrish4439 You do better! I have never seen a close-up of a volcano erupting in my life before; helicopters use massive zoom lenses and stay well back. This is just bloody amazing, and as already asked, how was the drone not destroyed. Or maybe a few were?

@@digitalclips I agree absolutely. It's easy to say "weakk footage". Me either didn't saw close footage like this ever befor. As an FPV Pilot I can say that it's pretty hard to film things while the temperatures are insane high. I filmed a burning vehicle pretty close and wasn't moving the drone fast enough to cool it and it got a bit burned. I can't imagine how hard would it be to film during this conditions. It must be so hot around an activ Volcano, so you can forget to focus on the footage and just get some nice shots done. By the way, this footage is absolutely beautiful. So close to a spitting Vulcano and even through the Lava. On top the drone got hit by a pice of Lava. Just enjoy shots like that and have fun or do at least good constructive criticism

What a great video. From the opening with the waves crashing on the rocks to the volcano with the lava spraying into the air, you did an amazing job of flying. I have to say that I am suprised you did not lose one of your drones. It had to be close with all that lava flying in the air and the heat. I have watched twice. Joshua, just amazing footage and flying! I've not gotten into FPV drones yet but do fly a Mavic Mini 2 here in Alaska with some success. Have been flying for about a year now. Check out my 'Drone' playlist. Nothing as impressive as your FPV shots but there's some good stuff there. Kept finding myself going 'wow', 'whoa', etc., watching this video!
