This is what's so great about the homestar universe. This isn't just being done as a 'haha remember our old cartoons?' gag, it's authentic to the experience of other media we had growing up. By the time you got to a show, you had no idea how long it had been going, whether you've missed some old episodes, whether perhaps the earliest stuff is just plain lost or not airing anymore...

Over the years I've gone to appreciate the brothers willingness to make fun of themselves, especially in their early years of animation. And I like how this sbemail both pays homage and parodies their really old work on the site. Just like how the first two Brady Bunch movies made fun of the show and still managed to be faithful adaptations in order to hold up as movies in the 90s.

I don't think so. If you were consumer back in the day, You would spend (tons of) money on something that could record TV and playback rented movies instead of read-only mutant discs. That's why VHS was the thing. People wanted to record TV with biggest capacity and lowest price, so that's why Beta lose format war as well. And I? Still wants to play some Video8's of mine.

I think this actually was the first Strong Bad email I ever saw! I remember being unreasonably distressed by the fact that Strong Bad's face was destroyed in the flashback, especially since it was inexplicably intact in the present. I was, um... 23 at the time... Anyway, now that it's on KZbin I'm delighted to see a recommendation in the sidebar for a video explaining precisely whatever happened to the LaserDisc!

People were not interested in them over VHS. They did not wanted additional format which was read-only and required another player for it. VHS (as well as Beta and Video8) could do this too, but it could also record programs.

They involved into the laser diskette format of CD, which involved into using a better laser and became DVD, which moved from a red laser to a blue laser and became HD-DVD, which refined to a better blue laser and became Blue-ray, which later got a even better laser that was still in the blue light frequency which is known as 4k Blue-ray.

The standard Laserdisc is 12 inches in diameter. From this we can conclude that the entirety of the Homestar Runner cast is shorter than 4 feet tall, with most of them shorter than 3 feet. Granted, this contradicts SBemail "the facts" which claims Strong Mad is 88 inches tall, but that email wasn't even consistent with two different measurements _on-screen at the same time_ (two different lines of different lengths were both claimed to be 88 inches)
