Ken about your question about cyclists: 1. We don't use the sidewalk becuase pedestrians slow as down toooo much 2. If there are parked cars, there is always the real risk that a car door opens and we just carsh into it, a safety margin is sometimes in order. 3. Often times, especially if the speed limit is not too far off from the bike's speed, it is safer to for us to just disallow you from passing us, because most accidents happen when cars attempt to speed by cyclists...

Our cities, especially those outside of Victoria, are very poorly planned. Using any form of transport outside of the car is a challenge, and bike riding is no different. Most cyclists will not use a footpath as it leads to too many points of conflict (e.g., pedestrians, vegetation, bumpy footpaths, cars turning out of driveways). It is also extremely slow to stop at each side street instead of continuing straight through like you would in a car. As for riding near the middle of the road, there’s oftentimes debris in the bike lane/ shoulder, or the cyclist may deem it too dangerous for them to be overtaken so they will remove that opportunity for car drivers. Finally, they could just be dickheads. The only solution to this is to provide separated cycling infrastructure, alongside efficient ways to cycle off of the main roads. If cyclists are provided an adequate and efficient alternative to the road, they will not disrupt car traffic. It’s also important to note that every commuter cyclist on the road is one less car to be stuck behind in traffic.
