I love this guy. He reacts naturally and dosen't do unnecessary forced overreaction and no unnecessary cuts and extreme audio distortion and suppression and just enough to not get copyright issue. Just perfect. (He's a kind hearted person and so are those who enjoy the series and cried at this scene, That dosen't necessarily mean people who could hold back their tears aren't. Maybe some went through alot of pain irl and they are used to hold back their emotions. But to those who call any show mid, they are those kinna people who dosen't like seeing others happy, people who are so self centered to the point they can't stand seeing others enjoy anything. Especially show like Naruto and Demon Slayer which have so much emotions in it, a sane person can never call such show mid and nobody should call any show mid. They may be not up to your taste but somebody out there put a lot of effort into animating and drawing it. Please respect their hardwork.)

When haters attack it for being "simple" they just mean its "not complex". And it is true that Demon Slayer doesn't really have complex schemes, traps, or politics/interpersonal conflict. The trio's personal interactions are all based on "simple" character characterising. Of course, "complexity" is not remotely required for a good story, it's just haters hating. In fact, a major part of Demon Slayers charm is how beautifully *simple* themes and characters can be turned into something so deep and impactful, and I would argue that it is so relatable and impactful because it *embraces* the simple theming. Regoku's theme was a committed duty to defend the weak. Complex storytelling would have been weighing concepts like "the greater good", having "moments of weakness", "temptation", showing "multiple perspectives" on the issue. Yet, while that can be done well, Demon Slayer focused everything on what that meant for Rengoku. Staying true and unwavering even in the face of (an otherwise escapable) death can say just as much about a person as a complex analysis.

I disagree that the themes are simple. The story is what’s grounded and simple, but especially if you’ve read the manga, the show heavily revolves around many complex themes and had many beautiful parallels. The characters and themes are complex and is what makes the show have its unique spark, and the story is beautifully simple and grounded.

Demon Slayer is the opposite of Attack on Titan. AoT is "how many layers of complexity do you want?", while DS like you said is straighforward but polishes it's simplicity to a mirror shine and makes itself so easy to immerse yourself in. Neither approach is wrong, they're just different flavors. And what makes both of them good is the execution and the super high quality of it's characters.

Demon Slayer is so astounding for how it handled Rengoku. We saw him during the trial/interrogation of Tanjiro and Nezuko, part of an episode after that, the prelude episode to the movie, and the movie itself, and I've never seen someone not get as attached to him as they do to Tanjiro and Nezuko themselves. 2, maybe 3 hours for a character in a longer running story like this, we barely got any time with him, and we ALL cry when he dies. Some of it's how it's framed, the cinematography, some of it's the emotional movie score, but most of it is that Rengoku is just that compelling of a character. You find yourself caught up in his energy without even trying to, his enthusiasm and passion for life are so infectious and he's just such a nice guy. And there are tons of other nice, seemingly perfect characters that aren't as great as him in other shows. I think it's because they make it so genuine and emotionally driven coming from him. You can tell all of it comes from a real place of caring. It probably also helps that he's so much like Tanjiro that it's an emotional shortcut to connecting with him, you already know a good amount of what's in his heart because it's similar to what's in Tanjiro's. So watching this is like watching Tanjiro die. Such a good movie. When I say Demon Slayer is a simple story, this is not a critique or disparaging of it. Some of the best stories in history are extremely simple. Lord of The Rings is a simple story. Star wars is a simple story. This does not make them lesser or worse than something more complex, it just means you don't have to try as hard to understand what's going on. When I say it has a simple story, what I'm saying is that "Plot point A leads to plot point B leads to plot point C, and so on and so on, without any detours or complications." I think Demon Slayer's simplicity is one of its strengths actually, it allows it to lay all of its emotions bare in the rawest ways possible without the audience having to dwell on nuanced, emotional and moral complexity. Tanjiro is capital G GOOD. Muzan is capital E EVIL. Tanjiro is on a quest to defeat Muzan and save his sister. On the way, he's not having to wrestle with any moral conundrums like whether it's right to let Nezuko feed on humans to survive until they find a cure, that sort of thing. You don't have to worry about any of that because Nezuko sleeps to recover her strength, and all the show has to do to break your heart is show Tanjiro his family in a dream and make him walk away from them for the greater good. There's emotional depth, but not a ton of narrative depth, if that makes sense. There's no grey area, we're fighting the bad guy and saving the day. I know you said to not make it a discussion, but in my defense, I'm an obsessive compulsive person, and when a topic catches my attention, I can't not elaborate on it.
@rowanmales34303 ай бұрын
Your expression change when you realise that Tanjiro would have accidently killed himself had he been fighting alone is so vivid to watch. It was also great storytelling. The single minded and iron-willed nature of Tanjiro is what allowed him to beat the endless dreamworlds, and we the audience, like Tanjiro, truly believed he had beaten the ability, just for that very single mindedness to have got him killed in front of us (were he alone).

Kyojuro is his given name (his first name), Rengoku is his family name (surname). Akaza is also not using any honorifics (-san, -kun, etc.). I paid money twice during the pandemic to see this movie in cinemas (with subtitles) and ugly cried in public both times. Kyojuro is my favorite Hashira. Don't worry Luke, we in the fandom have been drawing and writing AUs where some anime bullshit happens and he pulls through since the chapters dropped originally. But I think it's worth discussing that Kyojuro is twenty years old. He fought an Upper Moon as hard and got as far as he did BY HIMSELF. The argument can be made that Akaza was holding back, an argument I agree with, but that still says a lot about how strong Kyojuro was. His goal was to protect the people on the train and he did that. Not one of the two hundred passengers died. He was a decisive and humble leader, prioritized people's safety, knew where his strength was needed, trusted the boys and Nezuko to get the job done with Enmu and kept the boys out of the fight with Akaza so he could focus on that AND keep them safe. Tanjiro was right. Rengoku may have lost his life and Akaza did get away, but he won the battle.

Welcome to the club, I remember watching this in theaters, and it tore me apart. This anime will always be my favorite for how realistic they portray injuries. Also the style and story in general. It really knows how to pull at your emotions.

People only look at numbers. People point out Rengoku's strength among the Hashira as well as every other Hashira. Anime fans have moved away from what anime is supposed to be about and decided they just want to power scale every character v each other its despicable. Rest is power Kyojuro, your strength transcends your fighting and will always be remembered by what you stood for and the lives you saved. ❤🔥Set your heart ablaze.

I somewhat blame TikTok. Its either powerscalers or weird shippers (MHA) or Goku Solos people. Its just a sanctuary for people who completely miss the point of anime. You are completely right. When I was younger and watching Dragonball and Claymore, I didnt Hey Goku would totally solo Claire, I thought this is amazing I wonder what other amazing anime are out there.

Yes! Thank you!! Rengoku's strength lies in his courage, his kindness, and his humility! His greatest moment, for me, is not when he displayed some impressive feat of martial prowress, but when he told his mother that it was an honor to be born to a woman such as her. All the greatness he achieved, and he was still so humble. Amazing.
@channerrerrie38063 ай бұрын
@@sparkymularkey6970 Exactly. And the author tried to make it clear that they are all capable of sparring with each other, and highlighted the strengths and weaknesses of each hashira and their abilities. Power scaling just ruins anime some times.

Ive had dreams when i was younger of seeing my dad again. I would usually immediately start crying while trying to tell him that he's dead. As an adult i get sad but try talking to him and asking him what hes been doing. Its like hes in another world and hes just waiting for us to catch up to him.

The funny thing is that this absolute monster of a human being didn't have any proper training, all he knew about swordmanship and the flame breathing came from 3 books, he was the definition of talent and had inmense potential😔

When the first time I watched this movie, I feel like there are surely gonna be more greater elements and crazy kind of combination of techniques that will implied in this movie.But then after finished this 2 hours long movie I absolutely speechless because of these stuff: 1. Different impressive ost inserted at the correct moment of the movie. 2. The realistic of family bond shown and past memories is well done even though it just in dream. 3. Animation...nothing much to say 4. Voice acting top tier and absolutely grow inside the heart of people watching this. 5. Most of the scene is not just focus on the fight but the emotions and bond shown is at peak level. 6. Fight to the end just greatness.Spirit and everything is insane. Ahhhh just best!!

Demon Slayer does follow a simple plot. The thing that makes it interesting is the characters. The plot itself IS simple, but the way that all the characters connect is extremely complex.

1:53:43 You basically read this perfectly. Akaza was mostly pulling punches and withholding lethal blows until the end of the fight because he grew so quickly attached to Rengoku.

I remember when this movie first came out, I didnt watch it like until next year bcs I cant accept that Rengoku died. Even tho I know he's gonna die bcs I read the manga, but still I cant take it no matter how many I watch the movie now I still burst with tears. I CANT AND WONT FORGIVE AKAZA NO MATTER HOW SAD HIS PAST LIFE STORY, I WONT FORGIVE HIM FOR TAKING RENGOKU'S LIFE 🥹 ANIKIIIIII 😭😭

I never liked an anime charecter as much as I did with Rengoku, he was really an awesome person with an even stronger sense of justice. Akaza did him dirty, I'm so glad they made Tanjiro yell how much of a miserable coward he was, running away at the first sign of danger, It's like he read my mind when I first whatched this movie. RIP Rengoku, his death won't be in vain

Akaza calling him by his first name, without adding a title to it (like san), is indeed a display of respect. That's how you usually talk to someone you're friends with. And you did read him correctly, he was holding back because he genuinely didn't want to kill Rengoku. Also even though she doesn't have much screentime, I love Rengoku's mom. The greatest men throughout history have always been the ones with good mothers, and just look how Rengoku turned out :)🔥

thanks for all the effort! it's hard getting anime reactions up on youtube at all, and movies must be even tougher. I think i'm glad you watched it in one go rather than watching the individual episodes, the impact is just not the same if this is drawn out over a few weeks. though it's still beautiful and heartbreaking. these fights are some of the best in all of demon slayer but i think the rest of season 2 will blow your mind even more, and season 3 while not perfect has moments that are just incredible and can stand out in anime history. a quick warning: the entertainment district is a total cliffhanger fest lol so it might be nice to react to a few episodes in a row even if you post them in your regular schedule^^

Considering this is the first Demon Slayer movie they made, and it’s early on in the story, and is THIS well made, and with how insanely well made the rest of the seasons are I truly cannot imagine how insane the final 3 movies to end the series are going to be, I have SO high expectations it’s insane
@angelmoon333 ай бұрын
I also liked Akaza as soon as he was introduced. He is my favorite demon (and i have finished the series) idk why but he truly captivated me. His fighting style most of all and the music they used when he showed up and when he was fighting. This fight is by far one of my favorites. I love Rengoku too and i agree 100% with what you said. They are the same. Had they both stayed human and been born in the same era they would've been the best of friends. I hate that Akaza killed Rengoku, i hate that Rengoku died, but i didn't and still don't hate Akaza.

Now imagine if you had 6 totally random cliffhangers in there and it took you 2 weeks to watch that. It still somehow works as a series but the buildup of tension and emotion is totally lost. Movie experience is just better and I'm glad you got that.
