isn't it nice that if youre italian you get a new york accent...and youre considered "american," simply b/c youre white...a FOB italian will fit in as an american in matter of days...whereas, as a 5th generation asian...youre viewed as ASIAN no matter how long you're here...new FOB asians will get fun of due to their weird accents...how unfair is this discrimination. very.

I'm 32 and I can tell people younger than me don't have as thick as an accent as before. When I grew up there wasn't social media. You grew up speaking how everyone else around ya spoke.

Im from upstate New York and we speak completely different from NYC. like when I say water it comes out as "wAHter" every word with an a in the middle for i extend it into an "ah" another example would be "dAHg (dog)"

That's a New York accent, it's just not a heavy accent. Could be the Island or the downstate northern suburbs like Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, or Dutchess county lol. I know plenty from the city and depends on where in the Burroughs you were born and raised determines whether or not you even have a recognizable accent. I know some with heavy accents and others who sound like they grew up in Schenectady or Albany lol.
