The reason is very simple. If you check his videos, you will notice that his most viewed videos (in millions) are a specific type of video, mainly massive large battles between various entities that can be anything. Probably done through requests. Now, lately he has been posting Stronghold strategy game type of videos, and they have not been getting as many views. In time his audience is slowly shifting to other interest. Hence the inverse correlation between total subscriber count and view count per video.

36:26 Incredible awful... So when the enemy leader dies, his entire town, castle, the thousands of men working for, the peasants, the public servants, his ENTIRE army,..etc just disappears... pouf.. gone.. Who came up with this mechanic? It boggles my mind why anyone would approve it..
