Too many words... Just say you need rods for the roof AND surge protection for the electronics aka two separate systems that work in conjunction to fully protect the home... Finally at 2:20 the lady makes the distinction. “Not a do it yourself project” Oh yeah? Challenge accepted 😈

Yeah unless you want to fry your entire home from a lightning strike id reccomend hiring a pro bud. Take it from someone whos installed these since i was 13 this is not a do it yourself project no matter what exp you have.

for the "pick-up" aka the highest lightning rod, would you use a solid copper spike or a solid copper sphere?

Do not try this at home😁

How do you account for different KVA's i.e. intensity of a storm? If lightning strikes your house, you have NO way in knowing how severe that strike is going to be. How about Sertec Lightning prevention?

Hi! Is it okey if I use your video for my report essay?

2.35 She claims they do not attract lightning, this is FALSE. The work in two ways, firstly they "spray" electrons off of the tips into the air (reducing the overall chance of a strike) but at the same time that stream of electrons acts as a path for a strike should one occur. This is why the lightning will always strike the ends of the tiny rods and not the rest of the huge area of the roof. If they did not attract the lightning then the lightning would strike anywhere on the roof, and you would have to cover the whole thing in metal, which clearly you do not need to do. Having lightning protection is a sensible thing to do.

What if the lightning doesn't strike the rods and instead strikes another part of the roof? Surely lightning can strike ANY part of a roof, NOT just the lightning rods and not always the highest part of a roof, or am I missing something here.
@marcusjr805 жыл бұрын
Lightning will always direct to path of least resistance to ground. That's why it will strike the rods instead as it is less resistance than the roof and provides path to the ground.
@MG635 жыл бұрын
@@marcusjr80 Ah thanks for your reply. So just to confirm, if you have lightning rods on your roof, the lightning will 100% only strike the lightning Conductor's.

Yup! An electric arc will always leap to the closest point. That's why our rods are installed at closer intervals. = )

If you put a rod on your roof I am sure it will attract electricity as it is the easiest route to ground if it is earthed. Only a certified engineer meaning you are unable to do it and you will be breaking some law somewhere.

While sitting on a major road in traffic that was bumper-to-bumper as far as you can see both ways it was raining like crazy lightning striking around the city all of a sudden lightning struck a house in the neighborhood that I can see directly before I had moved 10 ft that house was gone some 15 minutes at best. If you've never seen a house burned down start to finish or had a fire in your own home you have no idea how little time you really have you might want to watch some of those KZbin while you're having fun by the way who's watching your popcorn in the oven
