Eddie, that is amazing. 59m first day.. AND with one hand? Unheard of, I'm a national coach and national hammer thrower for South Africa. To put what you did in some perspective, my first day I threw 12m and currently I throw 71m after 14years. A whole ton of talent for the sport you have there mate, the most I've seen honestly.

being a hammer thrower you should know these distances are bullshit. Eddie's throw was no where near 59 metres! watch the video 'Australian Championships 2016 - Hammer Throw ' (i cant put link in this comment cos this channel wont allow it). but the throws were between 48 and 69 metres. Even the first thrower (who only threw 48 metres!) the hammer was in the air for over 3 seconds. on eddies "55" metre throw it was in the air for just over 2 seconds! Eddies distances in this video are total bullshit!

The hammer throw is all about balance, timing, and power. Both you guys have that. Throwing from a shitty soft ground eliminates balance and traction. No way you will get close without proper practice, environment. Great video and very fun to watch!
@rogerirvemalm6116
@rogerirvemalm6116 3 жыл бұрын
Agree! I started hammer throw when I was 44 - it is so much about combining the elements to get a good throw. Would love to see Eddie do it with some proper instructions and in a ring. Impressive indeed! And Eddie should try weight throw!
@CeRz
@CeRz 3 жыл бұрын
You forgot one of the most important parameter, the angle of the hammer at the given moment it leaves your hand. That angle will have a huge impact on how far you will reach.
@rogerirvemalm6116
@rogerirvemalm6116 3 жыл бұрын
@@CeRz Yes. Seems like it was a lot of strength in the throw. And I guess it is harder to get the right angle when throwing with one hand. But I am still impressed with his attempts - as I understood it was his first time.
@CeRz
@CeRz 3 жыл бұрын
@@rogerirvemalm6116 Yes I am very impressed aswell. That far with only 1 hand is pretty incredible. And yes, you are correct it was his first attempts ever. Why I mentioned angle is because the original comment said it's all about balance, power etc and forgot to mention the angle. In vaccuum the optimal angle would be 45° but in our world that's not possible since we need to take in consideration to the air which contains oxygen and all other substances. When we take in consideration to the air that means the optimal angle decreases, normally you would say that the optimal angle is around 35°-37° while making a throw through the air. But there really isn't a constant for this. This is really advanced physics and the optimal angle changes from places to places and there is no formula to make an exact, general, calculation of this. You need to adjust the model of the equation for every scenario and still you won't get an exact answer.
@CeRz
@CeRz 3 жыл бұрын
@Tyler Frost I know what they speak about. Don't worry. I was just making an addition to his post. He said it's all about balance, timing and power. He forgot to mention the angle. The optimal angle can increase your throw from 15 m up to 30 m or 55 m up to 80 m, it's that insane. 0° would only correspond to a throw of maybe between 1-15 m depending on the person's height... you get the point. Any throw is nothing but physics. And I could explain every detail of what matters and what doesn't matter without never ever having thrown a single hammer in my life.

Just saw a video where thor was sparring with some kid. Eddie Im telling you are going to MURDER him. You hit so much faster and harder - your movement is also so much smoother than Thors. Best of luck buddy !

I think Eddie did amazing considering it's his first time trying. No doubt at all that he could be an Olympian if he put as much dedication in as he did with strong man. Great video

If he works on using both hands and spinning faster he'll throw somewhere between 177 - 236 metres, if my calculations are correct.
