This electromechanical phone exchange was built by ATE of Liverpool (UK) in 1937. I've had it for a little over a year, and have taken it from non-working to fully working.
In this video, I'm running a BT Tester 355A Call Sender to repeatedly dial extension "35" to give the exchange a bit of a workout.
The call sender is shown at the end of the video, with the "monitor" sound turned up so you can hear dial tone, and ring tone.

Interesting to see the tester operating. The equipment looks mint. Thanks for posting this video 👍.

I maintained strowger in Rugby ATE (wasn't it the first strowger exchange or some such thing?), that sound is so memorable.

Why all the 'N' links? 1&2 step the rotary magnet, 3&4 are the A&B in, so you've got a loop on, but still stepping to loop dis? 7&8 earth (busy) the 'P' wire. It shouldn't work like that!

This is a PAX, not a PABX or public exchange... so it "plays by different rules" somewhat! 🙂 The selectors contain all the relays for the LF, FS and tieline circuits (no GS on this one as it's only 2 digit numbering) so there are more test points required than in a more standard pattern selector. The A/B contacts (for plugging a butt in) are on the pair of contacts above the N links, next to the lamp holder.
