This chapter is like a food nutrition label, boring to those who don’t understand it but pure gold to those who do. This is the good stuff, glass/optics are everything!

This might be the only situation where I don't mind the video labeled as boring. hahahaha

i found this to be more like sugar coated cardboard. wheres some... angles? and i dont mean the constant change of framing used... some... information on perhaps... aligning a pair of prisms? brewsters angle, prism angle, and alignment angle say, for a given distortion? i got a quick animated diagram, but the rest was useless waffle stating the obvious.

Robert Richardson‘s favorite lenses on the Hateful 8 were prism anamorphics from the Panavision Ultra 70 Apo Panatar set. I have to agree these lenses render just unbelievably gorgeous.

Can you go into the difference between the Vazen 28mm design and the 40mm one? Like in the construction that allows for the squeeze factor to not change with focusing on the 28mm

I love the set for this video series, but I'm curious how you've got the effect of search-lights moving across everything? Love the work, best wishes!

Some random questions: 1. Who is waving those lights in the background? 2. What lens this video is shot on? 3. How many black cats magnets are behind your back? 4. I still don't know how to build and anamorphic myself.
@AnamorphicOnABudget4 жыл бұрын
Let's do it. 1 - My sister. You can see her face in several of the test shots during this module. She's also a great cinematographer. :) 2 - The wide is the Atlas 40mm and the close up is Atlas 65mm. 3 - One magnet and two photos! 4 - That's not a question, but I'll bite. I'd be surprised if you figured how to build an actual lens just from this, but stick around and you'll learn how to put together your setup

If the squeeze factor of a lens changes over the course of it's focus range, does that mean I have to desqueeze the image differently through each shot that changes focus? Let's say I'm using the new Sirui 1.6x lens, will I have to change the the X and Y zoom values (Davinci Resolve) every time there is a rack focus?
@AnamorphicOnABudget3 жыл бұрын
Theoretically: yes. In practice, the difference is pretty small, plus it's only for a little bit of time (the duration of the shot), so, most people end up just living with it.

I suppose those variable squeeze anamorphic systems wouldn't work today anymore? having the option to switch between squeeze ratios sounds interesting.

Maybe they would, but the limitations they introduce, with size and focusing, are really not worth the hassle. :P
