Dude you gotta be kidding me, I just bought an acoustic and started diving into the blues this week instead of playing the same dead stuff I been playing for ages, and you post this! Thank you stitch!

This is gold. I’ve been falling into all the traps you mention. Each of these tips is like a lifeline to pull myself out of the (oh so deep) ruts I’ve been in. Thanks man.

I recall a video clip of Joe Walsh giving a guitar lesson. Joe made the point of not watching your fretting hand but instead watch your picking hand.

Great insight, I remember running up and down scales, just not tasteful or dynamic...a looper pedal is another great addition for someone starting out...I learned something today! Cheers from Ireland

Hey Stich! That 1-4-5 in the upper strings is really a light bulb moment here ahah! Man, when you think about it it’s really quite trivial so I’m pretty ashamed to even admit it but I just had to here. Really cool lesson and thanks so much man, hope all’s well by you. Tommy~

You came up on my feed, so I figured I'd check out what you have to say. I heard Albert King once say that lots of people play their guitars without any soul. I think what he was saying is that it's all about timing. We can learn all kinds of scales, all kinds of licks and riffs, all kinds of chord voicing........but the timing is what gives blues soul. We get stuck in the mechanics and technical aspects, which isn't to say that mechanics and technical stuff isn't important, when we need to focus more on feeling what we're doing. That's what taking our eyes off the left hand helps with. We also have a tendency to focus too much on the "landing", which can create a lot of cool sounding licks and runs, but it hinders the cross bar flow---as you pointed out. It's hard to teach a lot of this stuff because you almost have to instinctually know certain things in order for everything to work together. At any rate, there's lots of really good information in this video. Thumbs up.

I used to watch you a couple years back when I first started to learn guitar. I’m back for a long break and I remember a video where you talked about the count or timings of licks and I remember it really helped me but I forgot it and can’t find the video. Any idea where I could find it or something similar
